Concert For Diana - BBC1

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
But when you come from a family (at least in William's case) who generally look like a cross between Shergar and Kenneth Williams, it's the only thing the paparazzos can cling on to.

Yes it is safe to say that connection becomes more obvious as Harry grows up.

Without wishing to offend anyone, this is the biggest pile of shit I've seen in years. I'm just waiting for Phil Collins to turn up so I can gob at the TV.

It would be a travesty if he was not on the bill, tell me he is please. The quality so far cries out for him to be there :lolol:

Exactly. Obviously it's sad she died. I mean with the exception of a handful of people, any death is sad. But people she never knew standing outside her house in floods of tears was just plain embarrassing.

Maybe some people can see the good she did in her lifetime and the concert is a celebration of that. Still the NOTW culture we have today means English people are only happy when they can read about death and destruction.

Whilst many on here can't understand wht she is so respected, and loved, I can. She touched millions of peoples lives, she may not have touched yours, but hey ho, some might say that's your loss, or choice, so be it.

The fact that millions are watching this now, and 64000 have turned up at wembley proves that, whilst you may not understand what she did, they do.

For me, her humanity, her ability to make a child with AIDS smile, her influence on banning landmines (remember the UK used to make those things) and her influence around the world to genuinely make things happen, to make people less fortunate than us lives better.

There are many people in the world with the financial and influencial means to make such differences, and they choose not to. They buy football teams, spend obscene amounts of money getting elected into office, they buy multi million pound houses, and a second Bugatti to replace the irreplacable one they crashed, then hide away behind gates and security.

The likes of Diana, and people like Bill Gates, come in for so much critisism, when they are simply trying to make things better, using what they have been fortunate to inherit , earn, etc.

Fair play but it does'nt change the fact she was completely hatstand and had crap taste in music.

Could she have done it if she was poor?

No, I know what he means. It's not that we can't see any good in people, far from it.

But most of the people standing at the Palace gates weeping had no connection at all with her, it was like they got caught up in the media orchestrated momentum of the occasion and felt like they were obliged to join in. There seems to be 'need' to pile in and express one's grief these days, no matter how distant the victim. I guess we've moved on from the British stiff upper lip, but what happened to quiet dignity? It feels to me almost like people are trying to gatecrash other people's grief.

If you lost a loved one, would you not find it a bit creepy if complete strangers were seen outside the funeral wailing and gnashing their teeth at how unfair it all was? I know Diana was a slightly special case given her profile, but with all due respect, the world carries on turning, like it does with anyone.

I accept she did "a lot of great work for charidee", as the phrase goes, but so do a lot of people without any public acclamation.

Granted, yes terrible music.

And no, she could not have done it if she was poor, thankfully, she was not.

I fail to see the significance really as no if she was poor she would have been in the position to, but who to say she wouldnt have been one of the 1000's of people in this county who give their freetime without financial reward.

I assume there is some charity benefitting from this gig?

What a total bucket of bollocks

To play devil's advocate here, if I lost a loved one, not many people would know about it because none of my loved ones are famous.
People were taking sides when she and Charles divorced. A lot of people thought she was hard done by because she was young and naive when Charles married her but carried on with his mistress.

Well she had sod all else to do. If I was wealthy and didn't have to work, I'd do good work too.
