He took one for the team

High pressure tactics

Glaring miss

... When it would have been easier to score

Defence-splitting pass

Hospital ball

Hollywood pass

Mercurial winger

Turns on a sixpence

Mazy dribble

A man with a lot on his mind

Speedy wide men

Last-gasp equalizer

Etc etc

Albion Related Media Headlines (When We Win!!) :

The Seagull has landed

All things Brighton beautiful

Brighton Rock!

Seagulls Soar

Brighton breezy

That'll do nicely (Amex link)

The sweet smell of Sussex (success - geddit!)

And any other reference to Brighton Pier, crashing waves, seaside, stoney beach etc. and Geordie fans leaving at 1.00 AM for the long trip south. Yawn! :bla:

Brighton
Warming the bench
Good time to score
The lad
The gaffer
giant-killing, David vs Goliath etc...
back/front stick
lost a yard
leads by example
flooding the midfield
end product
tricky winger
cast iron/ stone wall

Slightly OT but the thing I find most grating is the refusal to believe in the exisitence of adverbs e.g "the lad done brilliant" rather than "the lad did brilliantly." Beloved of Redknapp Snr & Jnr.

England
I'm not sure if it's a known clieché or not, but it's more of a common piece of commentry or pundetry which drive me MAD.

Say the game is 0-0 and Team B has missed 4 or 5 chances. The commentator will say "It may be nil nil, but Team B should have been 5-0 up by now".

Well no, if they had scored the first chance the game would have restarted with a kick off, and the same series of events would not have taken place. It's bloody chaos theory.

- The Table doesn't lie
- it's what we do over the season that matters (after being thrashed)
- He works 'ard though
- Never play the ball across your own penalty area (oops ! My old PE teacher)
- it's like the ball is glued to his feet
- he leapt like a spawning salmon
