Ford Motor Company

Would have seemed unthinkable even 12 months ago, but I have it on good authority that part of their restructuring plan is to shutter all European operations and focus their dwindling resources in the US in an attempt to revive their north American business. (Unless of course they file for bankruptcy first). Europe will be the preserve of the French, German and Italian auto makers, whilst the Americans will retreat back across the Atlantic. The UK car market has ground to a halt; car dealers will drop like flies in the next few months and without a large dealer network they have no way of shifting the volume of cars they need to sustain anything like a viable manufacturing plan.
Don't buy a Ford if you plan on them being here to honour any 3 year warranties...

Find that hard to believe, bearing in mind that the Focus, Fiesta and Mondeo sweep all others away.

Trouble is, they lose money on virtually all these models. The only way companies like Ford make cash is by selling big, big volumes. But the retail and corporate markets have simply evaporated in the last 6 months irrespective of how good the cars are, and consequently the loses are mounting, with no end in sight. The Japanese manufacturers manage to produce cars far more cost effectively, and if Toyota, Honda and Nissan are making loses you can imagine how bad things are for the others.

I'd be very surprised if Game struggled to get through the recession. They're in an incredibly lucrative market with barely any high street competition.

Definitely be surprised if W H Smith were still around this time next year.
And at least one of the mobile phone shops will probably disappear, although I doubt it will be Carphone Warehouse

As far as I know, one William Ernest Archer no longer has an interest in Focus/Wickes/any other crappy DIY chains, but if he does, I'm sure I won't be along in crossing my fingers for a sharper than average downturn in whatever industry pie he currently has his fingers in.

Forgive and forget: MY ARSE :p
