I could happily watch Alison Steadman act all day long. At 78, she's still effortlessly good. For context, Abigail's Party was filmed almost 48 years ago!

Corden is both the ultimate marmite character and classic Icarus figure.

He was clearly seduced by fame and fortune and it may have changed his personality in some ways, but ultimately this is what he does best, and what he and Ruth Jones offered up last night was right up there with John Sullivan (OFAH) and Eddie Braben ( Numerous Morecambe and Wise Xmas Shows) as the stuff of legend when it comes to Xmas night TV.

They will still be showing this show on whatever channel in 20 years times, which is the ultimate litmus test.

Well I thought it was fantastic. I managed to stay awake for the whole thing ... unusual for me as I usually fall asleep no matter what I'm watching on Christmas evening. Great way to end a classic show.

Indeed this. Regardless of what anyone thinks of James Corden, Smiffy is a great character.

However I do get it as I struggle to watch and repeats of anything with Laurence Fox in it. (Which isn’t really difficult)

I liked. Although I have enjoyed the whole series, this finale was so hyped up I was prepared for disappointment. And yes James Corden is, by all accounts, pretty obnoxious. But it was good. Well worth watching IMO. If it helps, I am told the real talent is Ruth Jones. And she is lovely.

One of the brilliant tricks of Gavin & Stacey, is that the main story-line has always been about Nessa and Smithy.

Brilliant ending, the one we all (well most) wanted. Good to see Dave Coaches back to finish it all off as well.

Yeh Dave Coaches is such a great character.

In fact with Gavin & Stacey the attraction is the peripheral characters are so well done. Pete & Dawn, little gay Jase, all of Gavins mates with the silly nicknames etc

Nothing too complex, just well written simple British TV really and a good ending
