I play golf and a handicap of 7. The last two rounds I've played with a 18 and 19 handicaps and my game was poor, These two kept trying to tell me where Im going wrong, Jesus, I know where Im going wrong and having hackers trying to give me advise is laughable. I expect its the same with the likes of Vicente having to listen for advice from oatway.

Good luck with your golf Bigbelly--------------------If Vicente thinks that-and how the hell do you know, he can, how do you say it----DO ONE!! And thats coming from someone who loves the bloke! Charlie tells the players what Gus wants not the other way round.

Going back to kevo and his original post Gus did the correct thing in appointing Charlie at the start of his reign, but perhaps times have moved on,perhaps Charlie is getting to the stage where we need to replace him-however Charlie is a strong character and until i see him for my own eyes take the team training then perhaps i should reserve judgement.

So, given that you are so good and don't need help, why haven't you cured yourself?

I have, taught myself and never had a lesson. Had a couple of bad rounds but still managed to shoot my handicap where the clowns I played with shot 15 over their handicaps.

Charlies passion and love for the club....

Hmm. Until he's re-christened Charlie Gotsmanov, Meola, Crumplin, Harding, Gatting, Rowe, Zamora, Savage (Bas not Robbie), Codner, Minton, Wade, Nelson, Noone, El Abd Oatway then I'm afraid the jury's out at this end!

I really like the guy, and I know he loves the club and has been a great loyal servant over the years, but I think we'd all admit he was a bit limited in his ability as a player, despite the fact that he always gave 100%... Does anyone else think he may possibly be a bit lacking in his coaching skills given the quality of some of the players now at the club? Does it make any difference - do you have to be a good player to become a good coach? With the ability some of our players possess I do wonder if Charlie is the best person they can learn from...

I watched Charlie and others take the FA level 2 badge and his approach and thought process was fantastic to watch. just because you cant do something does not mean that you dont know how it should be done......Gus would not have him on the team if he could not contribute.

I don't know but I would hazard a guess that Charlie's role within the coaching set up, may be more a link man between the players and the manager, rather than a coach in the truest sense of the word. I do know Poyet absolutely loves the guy to bits.

He preaches what Gus tells him and as he said himself he wasnt too sure at the beginning but is right behind the way we play now.

This for me the main reason why he appointed him in the first place, until i see him take a training session i can't really offer more.

It's probably because he was a shit player that Wenger has never managed to improve any of his players ???

I agree with you and Leon Knight that you should never take advice from someone who is not as good as you.

Similar to this but I think he is also a bit of a link between manager and the club in general. He always strikes me as a bit of a 'man about the club' who probably knows and is quite popular amongst a lot of staff (kit man, office people, not to mention fans). Means Poyet can focus on the playing side and Charlie can sort out all the other little things if they are necessary.

what you have to do, is get the ball in the hole, in as few hits as possible. hope this has cleared things up for you

Of caurse he's right behind him now otherwise he's be down the road, It's either Gus's way or the highway.

That was the reason that Poyet took Charlie on in the first place as he wanted someone who knew the club well, whilst bringing in Tanno as his assistant manager. Charlie has done the job so well, especially keeping the team spirit which nobody should underestimate. When I've been on preseason tours, you can see the respect the players have for Charlie, but also the humour with which he handles them.
