And I thought this would be a thread about how this career politician from Malvern via Oxford and Brussels was spotted sporting a blue and white scarf leaving the Amex on Saturday. Now that's hypocrisy.

Now if three coppers were holding her down for a fourth to kick her in the head, and a magistrate said it was OK, then she may have a point!

Video looks as if they were asking that group to move back, they didnt so the police "forced" them back - although i dont think they needed to use batons, maybe just push them back or just start moving towards them.

No, there's nothing hypocritical about that.

And your point is ?? I commented on the thread , what did you want me to say ?

What I'm saying is that you didn't have a lot of say in a thread discussing a situation where a black man was at the receiving end of racism (no criticism of the police actions from you nor sympathy for the victim), yet you would go to town in condemnation in instances where 'your side' is perceived to be under attack/mistreated. The hypocrisy you are trying to pin on others is also at play with your posts.

In the same way some posters would never criticise any actions of anti-EDL protesters (which I think the OP was trying to highlight), what would a 'March for England' protester, or even a policeman trying to control a counter-protester, have to do to draw criticism from you?

This is not a conspiracy and I don't hate the police, I haven't labelled you, don't label me.

I have no sympathy for either of these groups myself, and I am no fan of Caroline Lucas.

But if you are a consistent person you have to be against the use of unnecessary violence across the board.

This is the footage which has given rise to this discussion:

Your post describes police officers regretfully and cautiously intervening with force to defend one violent group from another. Nice idea.

Watch the video and tell me what you see.

A thug in uniform is still a thug.

I have absolutely no issue with what the police did there. The so called protesters were preventing a pre-agreed march / protest ( even if I detest what the march was for ), that had been agreed with the police and the authorities. The police even appealed to the "counter-demonstrators" to meet with them before hand so both "protests" could be accomodated. Unsurprisingly the "counter-demonstrators" refused to co-operate. You decide on that course of action then you get everything you deserve - in this case a small prod from a police baton or a push from a police horse. No doubt we'll see some of the faces from that video at the Smash EDO farce in June.

EDIT - just to add, Lucas should have had better judgement than to be anything but impartial. Then again we're talking about the Greens here who have a councillor in Ben Duncan who supports the violent thugs that are Smash EDO.

And the OP's point is what, exactly? That the MP for Brighton is wrong to criticise such police tactics as 'heavy-handed'? They are clearly heavy-handed, whatever side of the fence you are on.

If you're going to have a pop at Caroline Lucas, surely you can do better than that?

You sound like you're just as bitter as the police. Why do you support the polices brutal actions? would you treat someone in public like that if they were in your way? Why are the police any different? I'm afraid insecurities about size, bullying at schools, ego problems, an extreme lack of brain and very little social life are what is required to join the police force. Nothing to do with social skill or intelligence. We've out sheeped the sheep, at least a sheep gets a sheep dog to guide it. We choose something as stupid to be our guide.

In all honesty, the protesters werent doing themselves any favours by not following Police instructions, if they just moved when they were told too then they wouldnt of used force. Batons should of been a last resort though.

I dont care what Lucas said myself, shes just saying her opinion.

But the police aren't above the law. The batons aren't supposed to be used unless someone is in danger. Clearly this isn't the case. The protesters were protesting right? Isn't it understandable why they wouldn't follow the polices demands when in protests? The police force is one of the things they are protesting against. Did you know an officer gets paid 2k a month after leaving the force once he's done his duty!

The Police give out orders for the public to follow - they didnt follow them, so force had to be used. Its the same for everything for the Police, like if there is a fight on West Street on Saturday night, the Police tell you to leave the area and you dont, then they would use force and you may be arrested.

Only reason i think batons were used was because the police thought the protesters could be violent towards the police. Should of just approached them with a baton drawn and only use it if they (the police) came under attack. The protesters arent all goody two shoes, if they cooperated with the Police, did what they said etc - then NONE of this would of happened - alas you do get people going to protests like this now solely to piss the police off, push them to their limit to see what they will do and to just cause trouble.
