Carl Rook ... triallist

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
So if I accept the argument that a reputation for giving young players a chance is important (which I think I probably do actually), what's to say we couldn't spend the budget on young players from other clubs instead of risking it all on producing our own?

How many youth players, releases, warrant the same amount of money spent on our youth system as we would spend on their wages? I.e. Sacking coaches and what have you, if we did away with our youth setup. There are plenty of Premiership youths that do not make it in league football. If you are suggesting saving money, how are we going to tap our local resources? You can't tell if we have the next South Coast Rooney, by watching a few matches here and there...

Not pointless IF that happens, but how much time and money do we waste on trialists and the youth set-up? And for what return? A handful of mediocre players.

Personally I'd just scrap both and use the money wasted for a very healthy transfer budget each year.

Adam Virgo: youth player, sold for £1.5 million
Dan Harding: youth player, sold for £850k
Dean Hammond: youth player, sold for £250k

Harding £850K ? Thought it was less.

Obviously our friend is from the Keegan school of management.

..........what budget? Can you show me how you do the numbers, because paying a youth player £150 a week for a couple of years costs the club £15,000 and we find out if he is shit during that period, and if he is good we can sell and make a healthy profit.

Spending money on players does not guarantee success, Turienzo, Dixon, Farrindgon, Jason Peake etc have all shown that over the years.

Well we seem to release a fair few each year, so multiply by twelve years and you've got your "hundreds."

I've no idea at what age players are paid, or how much they receive, but neither has anyone else offering the opposite point of view.

As I have read the Albion accounts for the last ten years or so I do have a rough idea, and have quoted so above. Your business model is frankly embarrassing bollocks, and I would mark it as such.

Just as a point of interest, who was the last local non league striker who got a trial at the Albion and turned out to be better than .. um er well.. a non league striker?

( Gary Hart was not a LOCAL non league striker and that was 12 years ago anyway)

Years ago Franco Massimo. He was OK until injury. Had to retire aged 21. A lad from Horsham.

Really?

There are enough young, local players who have made their way through the system for SOMEONE to have discovered whether scholars are paid a wage.

Or maybe you are right and NO-ONE on NSC has any connection with any of the players concerned?

good luck to the lad, even if we get him on a two year deal and loan him out to a league 2 team for a month to see how he does

A two year deal for someone who has banged a few in down in the Ryman League?

Is your name Dick Knight?

it could be worth a gamble to see how he does
