Wombling free
I’ve just got BT Sport for the first time as it’s free for 3 months with a new contract.
But watching the Champions League matches this week has reminded me how they were all free to air on ITV only a few years ago.
I do often feel like ‘the system’ just keeps squeezing more and more cash out of everyone, as western nations supposedly get more wealthy.
It’s like gigs.....it used to be that those who queued longest got to the front, but now unless you pay crazy money for platinum seating or standing you can’t.
Segregating audiences at concerts on racial grounds was banned in USA years ago and rightly so, but we all seem to accept segregation on wealth grounds these days.
Any more thoughts on Capitalism’s good or bad points or indeed how we could improve or alter what we have now?

So, this BT Sport deal sounds pretty good.

Can you give us your thoughts on that?

The market sets the rate. The laws of supply and demand. There isn't really a sensible alternative that's fair. Corbyn's labour will penalize people that want to work hard and improve their lives and will only really reward the people that don't really want to work hard or can't.

However annoying the Tories are, the alternative of an extreme left wing hard socialist Corbyn led labour is a hundred times worse ( SKy high interest rates bankrupting the country with spend spend spend plans) ' never ever forget that '

Or a balance somehere in the middle? Allowing the entreprenneurial and risk takers not to be penalised with spite taxes.

I'm poor and don't have a house. Assuming that you do have a house (owned or rented), I'd like to move in please.

Unless you want to segregate us based on wealth?

I also don't see why people who "pay" get to watch matches at the Amex, when those of us who "don't pay" are not allowed in.

It's 2019. Down with wealthism.

Capitalism has failed to deliver for billions of people, it has remained the leading economic force as it dose work very well for some and OK for others predominantly living in the West (happy accident of birth) but for Billions of others it has failed them.

Capitalisum is based on a very unpleasant human character flaw that being greed however the good news is Capitalisum as does everything have a life cycle and Capitalisum is entering its later life and will eventually die to be replaced by?

The realization that the end of Capitalism wasn't such good news after all?

The stone-age? Not had one of them for a while ....

I would challenge that everything has a life-cycle - religion seems to be here to stay ....

Some of the less-effective market types are being consumed by Capitalism - the USSR, now broken up, is gradually surrendering its recent [1917] communist basics and the Chinese are fast becoming the manufacturing global leader - how long before they surrender communism for capitalism?

Capitalism in decline? Where's the evidence?

I'm not a Corbyn lover, but that really is a very jaundiced view.
Whether you're a Brexiter or a Remainer, it is the stunning incompetence of the Tories who have got us inbto the current mess, being laughed at by the rest of the world.

I genuinely think that whoever Cameron handed the poisoned chalice over to would have struggled, wether Labour, Conservative or anyone else.

Forty years of intertwining cannot be undone in two. It was always going to be a shambles unless we rolled over and took any deal(s) they threw at us - or we appointed 3,000 new ministers and threw bodies at it. Neither has happened.

Russia hasnt been communist for decades. China onlyreally politically communist while embracing market economy and capitalism, drag themselves from agarian impoverishment in 1970s to near worlds largest economy today.

Project Fear.
Even the Daily Mail ramps down it's idiotic rhetoric to a certain degree.

Did you write down 'extreme', 'left wing', 'hard' and 'socialist' throw them up in the air and write them down in whatever order they fell in? :glare:

What specific "extreme left wing hard socialist" policies are you most concerned about?

I believe larger companies should be more of a co-operative set up so employees benefit more from the performance, not just investors.

I would say there is a lot more scope for "Not-for-Profit" organisations where everything goes to the employees, but unfortunately you need investors to have the money to set up in the first place.

Personally I would like to see an option for a company structure that rewards investors but only for a fixed period of time and on a sliding scale so that at the end of, say, 10years or after an agreed return on the investment, the investors are considered to be paid off and the company can operate as a not-for-profit organisation... this would mean the cost base could drop and/or employee benefits increase. This would be better for consumers, staff and management and keep investor's money moving around the economy quickly so they maintain their returns.

capitalism or more importantly market economies are a form of democracy. vote with your money. want want to go to a gig you pay, or dont pay dont go. tickets are a scarce resource, not everyone can go, so the market determines what value people put on that thing. really its not capitalism, thats the ownership, its the market economy, and most are happy with that when it works in their favour. certainly there are excess and injustices, though the alternatives are worse. worst system except all others we've tried, as someone said.

That's hilarious. Genuinely laugh out loud funny. Capitalism has undergone various forms, some compatible with democracy, others not. Democracy predates capitalism, but capitalism predates modern democracy. Ancient democracy was initiated against oligarchy and included Solon's cancellation of debt. I could go on but, in response to your ridiculous first sentence, democracy is a political form of power or organisation, whereas capitalism is an economic mode of organisation.

You're just giving more ammunition to my long-held suspicion that you're paid by some vile free market thinktank to write this drivel (probably, in turn, funded by the Koch brothers), alongside the Daily Mail tagline, and the affected sentence construction that you insist upon.

In bold just undermines any serious point you may have had.
