Hi all,

I have an xbox 360 that has been sitting dormant for nearly a year now, and as I've just ripped some tendons in my foot I'm stranded on the sofa for a few days if not weeks.

I'm 2 hours into sitting and I'm already bored and was thinking about firing up the xbox and buying some new games to pass the time.

Here is the problem, I haven't been a regular gamer for years and the choice of games is staggering:eek:

I used to have a ps2 years ago in my late teens but then started working and discovered beer, clubs and girls, and left gaming to the kids..... I'm now 33 and haven't played for years, the missus bought me the xbox for Xmas a few years ago but it hasn't really been touched (apart from lego Batman)

I've usually played simulation games such as forza motorsport, project gotham racing, tiger woods golf etc etc but am thinking about changing into others

Cod mw3 everyone is raving about, is it easy to play? I fear the controls are complicated and will take so long to master ill get pissed off before I really start it..

Or are other games such as fable 2 or skyrim worth a shot? They seem quite appealing to me...??????

Just after some suggestions really, I feel like I'm gonna go stir crazy just watching tv but don't want to waste 40 quid on a game that'll just piss me off after an hour.....

Interesting, I'm actually in a similar situation to you (re gaming) I used to play all the time but haven't regulalry since PS2, the last game I completed was GTA San Andreas.

I bought an xbox last week with COD and FIFA 12. COD is actually a piece of piss to get into, it's not even that difficult but the way it brings you as the gamer into the story is really good. It's better online apparently, but I haven't set that up yet.

I'm thinking of getting GTA4 once I've done this as I love the GTA games and missed that one when it came out.

I think I'm gonna have to try cod, did you get mw3? If the controls are quite easy it seems like a good choice, I've tried playing an earlier version round a mates and he just annihilated me!!!!!!!!!!

playing skyrim on the pc at the moment. Its pretty good...and there are alot of hours in it which should suit you.

Dont rate CoD really, but that might be coz i play first person shooters on PC and there are better ones about. Usually use the PS3 for fifa.

Saying that tho the batman games are both awesome, as well as uncharted 2 (havnt played 3). Not sure which of those you can get on xbox?

Skyrim is a huge commitment in terms of time, it's not really a pick up and play for a little bit before moving on. If it's your type of game, then as above, you won't need anything else as you'll be hooked on it for weeks on end

Just read a review and it seems pretty involved, all I have to do now is somehow hobble and struggle into town to get it.....

Throw the Xbox HARD back at your missus and tell her she should have got you a PS3 instead

COD is very easy to pick up. Has varying levels that start very easy if you want feel you want a slow curve into it. Playing online can be tricky to hold your own on, but get reasonable at the game and its where the most fun is.

Personally I'm a Fifa addict, its a fantastic game which again once picked up is awesome online. The fact that Brighton are in it makes it even better :)

Dont forget that with the new dashboard updates coming in the run up to the new year that XBOX is not all about games. There is loads of streaming video content (Sky, BBC, TV, 4OD Five, LoveFile, Zune) and when NetFlix release next year should change the viewing habbits of the UK as they have done in the US.

I'm not a great gamer, but I loved Arkham City. I would also recommend the lego games (original star wars trilogy, new star wars trilogy, indiana jones, batman, pirates f the caribbean, harry potter years 1-4 and 5-7 (just released) - star wars clone wars wasn't great, but still fun).

Get Skyrim, for any platform. As has already been said it will keep you involved for a loooooooong time.

fifa 12 is the only game that really stands the test of time - takes forever - it takes about 18 hours of play to get through a season and is good fun. when bored of that, playing online is hilarious and structured so you will play people at a similar level. at around 3 games per hour, time will fly by.

Sake, why turn a perfectly decent thread into an Xbox vs PS3 binfest? Xbox users prefer Xbox's and PS3 users prefer PS3's, we get it. Move on!

I would opt for COD: Black Ops for several reasons: you’ll be able to pick it up for less than half the price of MW3; there will still be plenty of people playing on-line; the campaign storyline is far better and the mission is longer; you get Nazi Zombies and Dead Ops Arcade; and and and…
Most importantly though, you get the Combat Training mode. This is brilliant because it lets you practise your multi-player skills without going online. You fight against artificial intelligence (AI) players and can set the difficulty levels, choose the maps, select the number of enemies and so on. Great fun and a good taster of what to expect when you decide to play your first online battles. I set the AI level really low and managed to get a kill-streak of 71; if only I could replicate that online!
