Yesterday he claimed nearly all the crosses into the box, and his distribution from his throw outs were good. But the two goals were down to him, the first one went directly underneath him and the second well he didn't stretch far enough. He is definitely playing without confidence, and it shows within the back four because they are hesistant to pass back to him this was shown at Norwich on Tuesday night and yesterday.

That may take some time, but I'll try to give it a go when I get bored of an evening. Might be tomorrow evening, might not be til later in the week.

take the ball away from them?

From the parameters of 40 yard, 50 yard, 60 yard punts from defence?

I wouldn't even know where to look for the raw data to make those stats.

There would also be debates about whether a particular incident was a poor first touch, or an attempt at first time pass/flick on.

My bigger issue with Dickinson (and I'm gonna take a wild guess that this is you wanting to make him look bad) isn't that his touches lead to a loose ball in our opponents area (which with pressure from supporting players would panick opposition defensive, pressure them and lead to more promising attacks). For me, the problem is when dickinson waits for the ball to come to his feet, which often leads to defenders nipping around him and intercepting a pass he could have collected with a stuck out foot, or a step or two forward.

Interesting to see that Smiths goal percentage is nearly double that of Kuipers, and both have the same defense in front of them.

Hopefully for Smith its just due to a settling down period and that he comes good, but they are damning stats.

It should be noted, that shots on target are not separated into "easy to save", "need speed to save" "need stretch to save" "need positioning to save" "no chance of saving" to give us an idea of where our keepers are falling short, or what they are facing (i.e. it could be that with smith in goal we face more "no chance of saving" shots than with kuipers, because the defence get nervous with the comparatively unfamiliar smith in goal).

And I still say we need to see Smith behind a competent, confident defence to truly judge him.

Indeed. Find it amusing that someone wrote that Smith makes the defence worry ... I pity any keeper having to play behind our talented back line.

Well you watched a different game to me. In the second half on two occasions he flapped at the ball which went about 5 yards and we were lucky no one was near it and, on three occasions he stayed on his line when the cross dropped approx. 3 yards from his line in the centre of the goal.

This confidence thing is crap. Seeing a keeper with no confidence was watching Moseley in the 1st season in L1 1980. Allowing the ball through his hands/legs etc. He still managed to position himself and still attempted to stop the ball, he generally got his position right but then proceeded to be a butterfingers. Smith positional play is inept, he doesn't move quickly enough and gets beaten too easily, end of. He is just not good enough and after all he is getting enough practise!

You clearly were not at the Huddersfield game. If you had been, you would not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, say that "Kippers got sent off stupidly".

Smith looks worse on there than he did on the night. Slow getting to the first goal...........and goes to ground far too early for the second...(when the ball hadn't even reached him...!)
