He reminds me of a rock'em sock'em robot.

This whole "confidence" thing is getting a bit out of hand now isn't it? Davies isn't suddenly going to be able to stop missing chances if somehow he gets a ball into the net, Graeme Smith isn't going to stop being slow and taking up horrible positions just because he's got some self esteem. These players have problems with ability.

But yet Smith is good enough to have played 150 odd SPL games, played in Europe had Scotland B caps and been in the Scotland squad. Was the first choice of the team that finished 3rd in the SPL so can't be that bad. Where as he is playing behind pretty much the same defence that were nearly relegated to the bottom league. Not wishing to take the blame away from him (positioning for the first on Tues was shocking) just saying he can't be as bad as people on here make out.

:wrong:Check out the Motherwell web site. Apart from a slightly longer than average purple patch which earned him a place in the Scotland squad, he was error prone there as well.

But remember the SPL isn't very good - even the top two would struggle in the Premiership. The rest would struggle in the Championship (even though they're mostly relying on non-Scottish players). Scottish football is in the doldrums, and the goalkeeping has been the weakest link for even longer. They haven't had a half decent GK since the 1970's - and Smith ain't the one to break the mould.
And even though Motherwell aren't anything special, they didn't mind letting him go.............
Oh that we hadn't pushed Sully through the 'out' door! Time for Pelling to stand up and be counted; Sully did last season, so perhaps Pelling's the boy who can do it a year later. Bloody well hope so - we'll never get anywhere shipping 3 to 3.5 goals a game!

Don't forget that Thompson was captain of an SPL team and look how poor he was.

Don't go scouting in the SPL!

Smith will get better. He has had a few dodgy moments but all keepers do. We've moved on from Kuipers now, lets not go backwards and recall him. If Gus thinks Smoth isn't up to the job then get a loanee in, just dont go back to Calamity Kuipers.

Yes, I was going to mention him. I don't watch the SPL but between him and Smith I'm starting to think it must be even shitter than it's reputation suggests. A Scotland B call up hardly screams quality either.
But really we can only go on what we see, and what Smith has done so far is diabolical. Apart from his inability to get near most shots, he might as well not be there for aerial balls into the box, he can't kick and he is very reluctant and slow to come off his line for even the safest of balls.

Kuipers is one of the best keepers in the division - what are you on? Smith is one of the worst keepers in the league - simple facts

Sorry mate but your "facts" as you call them are f***ing bullshit. Kuipers is nowhere near one of the best keepers in the division and Smith is not one of the worst in the league.

Of course, your view is biased by your utter hatred of Michel Kuipers.

Anyone got stats on shots on target and goals conceded for Smith? I doubt there is a big difference.

Apart from Rangers & Celtic the rest of the SPL goalies must be only L2 or non league calibre. So why did we sign him in the first place , MM must be laughing his head off.

I wont lie and say that I like the bloke. I dont. But even I know that Kuipers isn't one of the best keepers in the division, and I'd like top know which club "Fleet" scouts for to have the knowledge that Smith is one of the worst in the whole league.

I must admit, I am worried for Smith at the moment, even Tony Millard had a dig at him earlier but the fans are making it so hard for him. Again it seems that the fight for the number 1 spot is not being played on a even playing field unfortunately.

Going through espn's soccernet:

R&D - shots: 6, on target: 2, concede: 2
Norwich - shots: 10, on target: 6, concede: 4
leeds - shots: 9, on target: 2, concede: 3
wycombe - shots: 7, on target: 3, concede: 0
wycombe - shots: 8, on target: 4, concede: 4
hartlepool - shots: 9, on target: 3, concede: 3
leyton orient - shots: 15, on target: 7, concede: 1
stockport - shots: 2, on target: 1, concede: 4
huddersfield - shots: 7, on target: 2, concede: 5

Apparently a goal doesn't count as a shot (on target), so I guess it should read:

R&D - shots: 8, on target: 4, concede: 2
norwich - shots: 14, on target: 10, concede: 4
leeds - shots: 12, on target: 5, concede: 3
wycombe - shots: 7, on target: 3, concede: 0
wycombe - shots: 12, on target: 8, concede: 4
hartlepool - shots: 12, on target: 6, concede: 3
leyton orient - shots: 16, on target: 8, concede: 1
stockport - shots: 6, on target: 5, concede: 4
huddersfield - shots: 12, on target: 7, concede: 5

shots on target 56
Goals conceded 26

46% of shots = a goal
