Doesn't really mean that much. Probably look at any business in the land and they are probably paying more wages than they have previously! As for players, I would suspect that Ulloa was on a relatively low wage. He came from Spanish second division club where there's hardly any money, especially when you consider the economic situation in Spain at the time. Orlandi was, by all accounts, on a big whack as was probably Kuszczak but I doubt Barnes was a really high earner as he was young when he came. If he was then why did he leave!!!
Given that we paid £2m for Ulloa, I rather suspect not. You don't make a pretty major (for us) outlay on a player like that and then get away with paying him buttons. He'd have been on a fair old whack off the back of the deal that brought him here.
