Burgess Hill

I've always liked Burgess Hill. Plenty of pubs and a cinema (wow!) in the town centre with friendly people but it is a bit boring.

It could be worse if you had to work round the Haywards Heath shops, Frutos. Everyone is so miserable.:lolol:

Miserable people in Haywards Heath? ???

I've worked there for 13 years. LJ's cafe is good for lunch; good because it's cheap and entertaining in that the patrons look like they are from the set of Night Of The Living Dead. It's got an Ask Pizza and Pasta and a KFC. That's about it.

Oh yeah; it does boast the best butchers in Sussex; Thorne's. Very near KFC inside the Martlets (god I hate that name for a shopping centre). You'll see the Albion shirt hanging up. Signed by the little twat Leon.

Not Lewes
I do currently work in Lewes.

I don't - however, my relatively regular jaunts into Lewes leave me with the general notion that Lewesians are generally up thier own arse, hence my sweeping generalisation.

It's a bit like being an Englishman in North Wales, they would talk in a different language if they could.

I tend to agree with you.

It's not a bad place, I've lived in BH since '97

Some decent shops, and undercover shopping centre, the usual fast food outlets, a couple of bakers.

It's fine for those with families, but if it's an 'appening nightlife you are after, you may be disappointed!

All you need to know about Burgess Hill is that it has a fully functional Uncle Sams :unclesam:

Amen to that!

Really all depends on what you want to know?

Are there places to get lunch? Yeah, Plenty of places to grab a burger, sandwich or pub lunch. Do you drive in or commute?
Can you get a decent after work pint? Yeah, depends what sort of pub/bar you like but there's enough to sort most kinds.
Good shops to peruse during lunch break? Nah, not really.

All in all not the worst place to be. May be a bit more chavvy than Lewes in places, but also a lot nicer in other areas.

Mei Xin Hins is amongst the finest Chinese restaurants in all of Mid Sussex and no mistake. Though the Wok Inn is OK too.

Jupp's chippy in West Street, is, however, unequivocally, the finest fish & chip place in the WORLD, and I heartily recommend it.

The Potters is probably the least crap pub (sadly us BH types are somewhat lacking in decent hostelries- not hostelries per se, just good ones) so I'd go with that, or the Top House at a push if there are actually any other customers in there.

It's just an awesome town really, we have a Millets, an Iceland, a WH Smith, a Wilko AND a Lidl, there's just not much more you can ask for is there?

I live near the town centre, I'll stick the kettle on for you

I'll be commuting in, and as far as an after-work pint goes, it's irrelevant as I'm teetotal.

Lived there since 73.....that's all my life.

Great people, not a bad little town, shopping hasn't really moved on with the rest of the town expansion (i.e tesco's estate and west end farm estate) so it does feel small for the amount of people it has to cater for.

If you fancy a quick dip in your lunch hour there is always the triangle ..one of the best sports centre's in sussex.

Burgess Hill town centre will be fine. Met Mrs Super Steve Earle when I worked there in the 70's, worked there again in 90's and still work there now occasionally. Pleasant pub in Church Rd with big screen & cheap lunches. usual high street shops with a few good privately owned ones. Go exploring. As Durlston says, the people in Burgess Hill are OK unlike the miseries in Haywards Heath where I also workes. They're just mean!

I love Burgess Hill and tend to go there for shopping. Plenty of cheap parking, Wilkinsons, a decent butchers in the covered bit, not a bad high street, lots of fast food outlets....just seems a nice, quiet town.

I grew up in Burgess Hill (used to live in the oldest house there in fact). I now work in Sidcup, believe me, there are plenty of worse places than Burgess Hill !

Tim Ley is does better fish & chips and chinese than both of those. Last time I used Jupps in about 1997 I was bitterly disappointed given it's reputation and the awards it had.
