Standing in the way of control
Thought he was unprofessional but presumably he'd been told to try for a reaction. Ideally there'd be a balance between that approach and the commitedly bland, "you must be pleased" style of Sky/BBC. Bundesliga, La Liga TV, ESPN and others routinely ask properly searching questions (typically thoughtful, on tactics) and get better answers and more respect from players/coaches as a result.

Sky are visually slicker and more familiar but BT unquestionably employ a much more qualified and diverse range of analysts (which doesn't take much against Sky.) The European football show and documentaries alone make them miles better than Sky. But they need a rebrand like I need a nose job and cock enlargement.

BT SPort is like a happy shopper Sky Sports

I hate Sky and particularly the Australian Mr Burns who owns it, but they do a very good job of sport.

BT sport is just pound shop. . .

Klopp is one of the good guys, of course he has a bias to Liverpool, it's his ****ing job!

He was pushing the big 6 agenda, more and more money for the CL and special dispensation in the EPL (oh, and more money there too). Whats to like about that? Agree its his job, and i like him,, but the interviewer stood up to the hypocrisy (take the tv schedule riches and then blame them when they get the odd tight set of fixtures). He needs to look a bit closer to home

Why does Klopp think Liverpool’s schedule is so inhumane?

In the last 39 days they have played eight games.

Five of which were at home.
One was in Manchester, about 25 miles away.
One was away to Atalanta.
And one was today.

Is that really such an unbearable run of fixtures and travel in modern football?

Because he's under pressure, because their club culture is based around exceptionalism, because he cant meet the demands of his club who sign up to all these deal..., because he forgets his pay is underpinned by all of this....

Of course it's not. Especially with the size of their squads. It's simply a case of the big clubs wanted their cake and eating it.

Klopp is a cock and the interviewer is a cock, the rules are the same for all teams. Boo hoo Liverpool have tough couple of weeks - use your squad but the interviewer is only interested in drawing a reaction.

Here's a idea what about the game concentrate on the football.

Good to see so many in defense of modern football! "<3 TV companies. <3 Meaningless international competitions. Footballers are machines, not people! Sure, when they turn 40 a lot of them can barely walk or even less so play football with the kids in the backyard, but who gives a shit, money is everything!"

World sure is beautiful and sure did a job on you.

Plus three international games for most of his players, so thats 11 games in 39 days and yes that is a lot of playing and travelling.

He was pushing his own agenda, also known as the health and well-being of his players (co-workers). Most people may not, but managers are generally not like most people. His co-workers are young people doing one of the most dangerous and physically harmful jobs in the western deindustrialised world. Yes they earn a shit load of money but this season with a packed schedule and lots of international breaks is not healthy, and contrary to the general unspoken sentiment in here, its not some charity from BT/other tv companies/PL/FIFA, they surely have their own agendas (money).

What’s the difference between 12.30 and 3 pm kick offs ? I find it difficult to believe moving it 2 and a half hours would make any difference.

To be fair there was an article in the Guardian yesterday where he talked about the disruption to their routine which he (and many others) deem very important. Getting up earlier, going for a walk, pasta at 9.30, then team meeting and straight to the match.

Less sleep, and he emphasised the importance of sleep in recovery. I can see his point, but obviously the money stuff trumps it.

What you mean the same money agenda those clubs have all signed up to which line the pockets of those clubs, managers and poor young players pockets to the tune of millions of pounds.

25 man squad and all of the health and recovery facilities and support any athlete can dream of and can’t play twice a week.

I really dislike the control that the broadcasters have over the schedule. Especially the short notice which we get to be able to arrange travel to games.

However, teams like Liverpool are privileged to be able to play in Europe. This means that they get huge income not available to lesser domestic clubs. This means that they have the resources to acquire and employ the very best players. And also to have a higher quality depth to their squad so they are able to rotate players and manage the schedule. If they want this extra income and choose to play in Europe then they have to manage the situation. It is sad that they have already brought about the downgrading of the FA Cup which now doesn't even have replays.

Do you mean the control they have in regards to picking games they are paying millions of pounds for ?

Because the ‘schedule’ is actually set by the PL, they set the kick off times and the packages and then the broadcasters bid for them.

Sky/BT only get to pick the games to fit the packages and the kick off times that the PL set out.

The schedule is relentless this season for elite footballers. Liverpool especially, and lets not forget these current games are off the back of a large bunch of pretty meaningless international fixtures. Do we really want to watch knackered players being flogged further and having their hamstrings ping or watch a competitive game of elite football?

I haven’t seen any statistics but it seems Injuries are thick and fast; we had two more ourselves yesterday. Klopp has a point and to suggest he should shut up because BT is his paymaster is a cheap call; you don’t live in Victorian workhouse Britain anymore. I also don’t feel see he's saying the 12:30 slot is an issue per se, more he wants some common sense for clubs playing successive midweek games.

That is all fine

But the clubs don’t want to have to pay a yet another rebate to the broadcasters.

The PL are the reason for all of this ... not the broadcasters.

He was having a go at the wrong people, he should be talking to his employer, the people who employ the young kids doing “one of the most dangerous and physically harmful jobs...”. The tv companies can only show matches the epl let them, the epl is owned by the clubs. He needs to look closer to home, I have no sympathy with him.

Footballers sign up for this job.

No one puts a gun to their head forcing them to sign contracts. They get paid extraordinary money and have every aspect of their lives taken care of.

I don’t think footballers have a problem with a packed schedule. Klopp is just bemoaning the fact his squad isn’t working for him.

Unfortunately that’s down to him. They play in the Champions League and get all the riches that brings. They have the money to build a squad capable of competing in multiple competitions.

Sorry Klopp, you’ve a very good coach but you’re a terrible classless loser. We deservedly drew with you yesterday. Suck it up.

And hats off to Des Kelly for standing up for himself and not taking any shit for this nonsense.

If he is so caring about the players health, why doesn't he use all 25+ (under 21s)players and stop complaining? The point of 25+ squad is to rotate and keep the squad healthy. It is not feasible to play your best 11 in every game when you are in all cups and Europe.
And, he is only using fringe players now because he has to die to injuries, the sour kraut should shut up and get on with it.

Well the clubs want the money from those competitions so you can’t blame the broadcasters for wanting to get what they have paid for. If the clubs don’t want to pay the money back then they are going to have to use the 25 man squads more and pick and choose where they want to be competitive so their top players get the rest that is needed.
