The Albion are also in favour of five subs.

Today we had Lamptey suspended and now have

Izquierdo
Pröpper
Lallana
Maupay
MacAllister injured

This doesn't surprise me. The teams in favour are going to be a) the big teams with top quality players throughout their squads and b) smaller teams like us who have decided to spread their relatively small resources thinly across the squad as opposed to smaller teams Palace who have jizzed their budgets on 2 or 3 big name players but are left with mediocrity to fill out their squad beyond the first XI.

Liverpool pulled in £150m from the PL last season and another £111m from the CL. That is £160m more than we have to work with and does not include the domestic cup money, their huge sponsorship deals or global merchandising revenue.

They should be able to easily fund a squad to be competitive twice a week injuries or no injuries.

Klopp needs to appreciate we're in the midst of a global pandemic and given footballers were asked earlier in the pandemic to take a pay cut and they refused then to make the money up to pay their wages from TV money they are going to have to play a lot of football. Klopp is a well paid manager so needs to manage his resources more effectively. I am sure there are many doctors and nurses in covid ICU wards up and down the country who would love a rest too.
Nailed it.

Exactly this. I seem to rmember there were a few eyebrows raised when Liverpool didn't spend much (relatively speaking) in the window. Maybe the recruitment team should've made a bit more of an effort, if he doesn't think his squad is good enough

Haven't read all the comments but, clearly, some people don't understand journalism and/or the art of interviewing. Klopp picked the wrong target to vent at, well and truly and I think Kelly handled it pretty professionally.

The thing that gets me is that given they are Premier League champions - and recent Champions League champions - Liverpool have ample squad depth to cope with the number of games, even taking injuries into consideration.

It seems that Klopp has become someone who isn't happy unless he's got something to whinge about. Number of subs? Blame Chris Wilder. Having to play early on a Saturday? Blame the TV companies. A few injuries? Blame... anyone that will listen. Milner - no spring chicken - started three games in a week, didn't he? It's not a complete surprise that he's injured, then!
Des Kelly is a good journalist.

Picking a fight with Chrissy Wilder is probably a bad idea. He's a very honest and decent bloke.

I like Jurgen Klopp but he's tripped himself up and fallen face first into a plate of eggs on this one.

Maybe, when the fans are back, a half-time boxing match at the Liverpool/Sheff Utd game could be arranged between Klopp and Wilder?

The broadcaster could probably get a bit of extra coin in and PPV it :thumbsup:

Big Jurgs would have the reach, height and physique advantage. But Wilder would pull a Ruiz Jr on him and streetfight his way to a stoppage inside 7 rounds.

This seems a little unfair. There is plenty of mediocrity in Palace's first XI too.

Cant believe Klopp and Liverpool are 1-0 up tonight, given the fact they have hardly any players left standing .
Must be putting their players at risk, but the financial benefits must be worth it

Do you think so?

His team aren't playing well, but he has managed to deflect any criticism from them and get all the press talking about him and his narative.

That's smart.

Its not about deflecting anything. He said pretty much the exact same thing after their best performance, 3-0 against Leicester:

"It’s not only about us,” he said. “It’s about all the players, England players, players who play next summer in the European Championships.

“Sky and BT have to talk because if we keep playing Wednesday and Saturday at 12:30, I’m not sure if we will finish the season with 11 players. All the top six or seven. But I know you don’t care.

“It’s really difficult for the players, that’s what is difficult. The rest is just a decision on a desk in an office. That sounds not difficult for me.

“People tell us to rotate – who? We have offensive players to rotate, yes, the rest are kids.

“Stop talking and start making decisions.

“If somebody tells me again about contracts I’ll go really nuts. Contracts are not made for a Covid season. We all have to adapt. You adapt, we adapt, you’re standing here with a facemask – we adapt to the situation. So everything changed.

“But the contract with the broadcasters is: 'No, we said we have this, so we keep this.' Everything changed, the whole world changed.”

His interview tonight after a decent performance is very different.

He may have a real gripe, but after a bad performance he 100% deflects the press with deliberate controversy.

Tonight's match Klopp makes one substitution before 90mins. He can make 5 (five). Ajax made 4. With an alledged ravaged squad.

Perhaps todays result is worth too much money, or he squad is so weak the subs are rubbish, or its all much ado about nothing.

Still, Liverpool now qualify to the last 16
