Well the clubs want the money from those competitions so you can’t blame the broadcasters for wanting to get what they have paid for. If the clubs don’t want to pay the money back then they are going to have to use the 25 man squads more and pick and choose where they want to be competitive so their top players get the rest that is needed.

True. This is one option. Another, and far easier option, is just a little bit of consideration and common sense with who plays the 12:30 slot. As a supporter I also don’t like your idea of clubs choosing another bunch of games where to be competitive; we’ve seen what this has done to the FA Cup.

Footballers sign up for this job.

No one puts a gun to their head forcing them to sign contracts. They get paid extraordinary money and have every aspect of their lives taken care of.

I don’t think footballers have a problem with a packed schedule. Klopp is just bemoaning the fact his squad isn’t working for him.

Unfortunately that’s down to him. They play in the Champions League and get all the riches that brings. They have the money to build a squad capable of competing in multiple competitions.

Sorry Klopp, you’ve a very good coach but you’re a terrible classless loser. We deservedly drew with you yesterday. Suck it up.

And hats off to Des Kelly for standing up for himself and not taking any shit for this nonsense.

He didn’t seem to have an issue with the result. He praised us, said all the VAR decisions were right, and only challenged the interviewer when the topic of injuries came up. This was a topic he’d raised going into the game as well.

Check out how many games Souness and the 12 or 13 other players in his mob used to have to play in a season.

He did say that for a possession based team we didn’t have much HT
Feint praise.

I think he was agreeing to be sarcastic.

The schedule is relentless this season for elite footballers. Liverpool especially, and lets not forget these current games are off the back of a large bunch of pretty meaningless international fixtures. Do we really want to watch knackered players being flogged further and having their hamstrings ping or watch a competitive game of elite football?

I haven’t seen any statistics but it seems Injuries are thick and fast; we had two more ourselves yesterday. Klopp has a point and to suggest he should shut up because BT is his paymaster is a cheap call; you don’t live in Victorian workhouse Britain anymore. I also don’t feel see he's saying the 12:30 slot is an issue per se, more he wants some common sense for clubs playing successive midweek games.

Presumably that is Klopp’s argument. I would be more sympathetic if football weren’t every man for himself. If there were equity in the distribution of tv money and Liverpool were not benefiting from this structure then they would probably get unanimous support. If elite players are having to play too often it is because of too many meaningless European and International games and this is also driven by money. Basically the top clubs want more games to make more money and then expect everyone else to roll over when they try to fix time slots and numbers of subs to enable their greed. The other point the BT man was trying to make is that these are difficult times for everyone. The schedule is determined by the wish to spread timeslots as wide as possible so that games do not clash. This is good for the fans who currently cannot attend live games.

Klopp needs to appreciate we're in the midst of a global pandemic and given footballers were asked earlier in the pandemic to take a pay cut and they refused then to make the money up to pay their wages from TV money they are going to have to play a lot of football. Klopp is a well paid manager so needs to manage his resources more effectively. I am sure there are many doctors and nurses in covid ICU wards up and down the country who would love a rest too.

I begrudgingly like Klopp but think he is bang out of order here.

Firstly, Des Kelly was doing his job, pretty standard questions. Ask about the controversial moments, ask about the injuries and how long they might be off and that sort of thing.

Klopp went on the attack first blaming broadcasters for the schedule whereas it was Klopp's employers, along with the other CEOs, that agreed the time slots with the broadcasters. They would have known that the broadcasters would want the big clubs on the early kick off when they can because that increases the viewing figures in the far east. Don't forget that pretty much all the big six have heavily marketed themselves in the far east to boost their fan base.

Klopp's problem is that he is missing VVD through an appalling tackle by Pickford, not because of the playing schedule. That has now been exacerbated by injuries to other players.

As for the 12:30 slot, I'm sure Liverpool would have travelled down on Friday and let's be honest, by travel we mean hoping on a jet for a trip of about an hour and not sitting on a coach for 5/6 hours! They would have probably had a light training session on Thursday after the Atalanta game, could have trained on Friday morning and travelled later in the day. No different to playing on a Saturday, light training on a Monday and then travelling either Monday or Tuesday for a CL game!!!

As for 5 subs, I'm against it as I think it favours massively the teams with far superior squads. Anything that helps level the playing field I'm for it. As for our injuries, Maupay went off in the first half and he's hardly been playing relentlessly this season and Lallana only had 8 minutes, again that's not down to our schedule of matches so it is disingenuous to use their injuries to support Klopp's argument for 5 subs.

From October 23rd

There have been 78 muscle injuries already for Premier League players this season, a 42 per cent increase from this stage in the previous campaign, reports Ali Humayun.

For me - the fact every other major European league is at 5 subs, as well as the EFL and we are not is another example of PL arrogance. Just wait for the Euros next summer when all the English players are knackered and we have another poor tournament

Oh dear, a 12:30 KO and Klopp is unhappy. What about the years and years that us poor fans have been moaning about early KO's.
I take you all back to that day in 2016 and our last game of the season. Away to Boro with a KO of 12:30. In the EPL years there have been lots of early morning starts or late night drives home when the games have been played at stupid'o'clock. Yes it needs to be sorted, but not just for the clubs, take in to account us poor fans as well.
As for 5 subs, 5Live worked out Klopps use of subs this season and most of his subs have come on in the last few minutes and purely to waste time.
Oh, and has GPott complained about playing two games in three days over Christmas, not yet.

At its narrowest, he could simply be complaining that a kick off at 8pm vs 12.30 would have been more reasonable given a previous match at 8pm on Wednesday and a match coming up at 8pm on Tuesday. It all seems a bit 1990s with Fergie but its a understandable he would argue for that. Why have a public spat though.

His issue appears to be exacerbated by the impact of injuries. I don't care much for them or any other club beyond the Albion and i don’t know much about their situation but the national media seem to support it. At that point its like any other team throughout the years, how do you manage with what you have. That doesn't dumb down the competition.

According to the EPL they have a squad of 28, excluding keepers. They have played 17 games starting from the charity league match end of August. 13 weeks. Plus players maybe up to a further 6 international games. Doesn't feel outrageous, and of course his employer, who have a legal and moral obligation to look after their employers, signed up to this.

On the squad, he has many defenders who haven't played or played little. In midfield several as well. Upfront he has problems for sure. But thats the sport, always has been. Tongue in cheek, but play one of the defenders up front, other teams have in these circumstances.

Finally, he didn't complain about VAR as he said he didn't want the headlines to be about that. Instead he chose to get the headlines on this. All about Klopp and Liverpool. People move on from a great Albion performance and a deserved draw. He may be a great bloke but he is part of the dull big club entitlement position. Lets not also support it.

The interviewer wanted headlines and he got them. Klopp said he agreed with the penalty, which probably isn’t what a reporter wants to hear, so he poked Klopp by saying his players disagreed. Klopp had been vocal about the physical stress on players in the build up to the game, so he went down this road to get further reaction. Klopp could have remained quiet but then why should he? I really don’t feel it’s big-club entitlement as I have the same view towards our the well-being of our players.

Agreed. If it was a race horse and they were being made to race more often and we saw an increase in injuries would we just say oh well part of the sport or look to do something about it ?

He did what any other reporter should do, he asked questions. On his second question Klopp accused him of trying to get the headline at his cost, He was clearly rattled before the interview and later on over reacted massively by blaming injuries on the tv companies.

He doesn't need to remain quite but its bizarre angle he's taking. Its not the TV companies fault. He needs to take it up with his paymasters. Liverpool as part of the EPL sign their contracts, take the money, the owners make a fortune, so has he and the players. Rotate your players to give players a break. They have 7 midfielders who have played 5 or less games. Its in their hands, from contracts to signings to rotation. But it seems its easier for him to blame someone else.

Because as the interviewer pointed out

It isn’t the broadcasters fault

It’s the PL at fault

Why is that the tv companies fault? The clubs can agree to 5 subs, and they can rest players and use others.

I didn’t say it was the tv companies fault. It’s a culmination of everything / everyone. And you can blame the PL, but really the PL is just a representing organisation of 20 clubs.

Agree its lots of things coming together, but all bar covid in the remit of the clubs in the epl. Liverpool have fought for more games in europe and pushed hard for more money from tv companies. It all comes at a cost. Perhaps they should rotate their squad more than they have. The subs point is all within the EPL teams remit, so perhaps negotiate with other Epl teams by giving them something, enough to move to 5 subs. Liverpool making the tv companies the scapegoat is laughable

Fair enough. I didn’t realize Liverpool FC chose the12:30 slot, seemingly against their team manager and medical department’s preference. My bad.
