Playing Devils advocate here so please indulge me. What makes Greta qualified to lecture us all? Is she an expert in climate change? Has she years of study behind her? Ffs she doesn't even go to school.
I know it's 'Devils Advocate', but it's that kind of moral absolutism that really annoys me - she's someone who is trying to make a change to the world she and everyone else lives in. Sure she is not in school (she may have alternative arrangements, I don't know) and there's the old bollocks about 'Yeah but she flies/she uses plastic' - it deosn't mean she should be pilloried for making an effort.
there seems to be a fairly large group of people who believe that unless you're absolutely perfect you're not allowed to try to do anything good whatsoever
HOW DARE SHE TRY AND IMPROVE THE WORLD WHEN SHE'S NOT EVEN AT SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ridiculous article, just another case of the media investigating the people instead of the power.
Brilliant article.
Online bullies/trolls of any political persuasion should be shamed. Individuals exposed.
No, **** that medieval shit. The shame pole should be in the same drawer as the whip or ruler used to punish kids in the school way back when.
Pointing at a few individuals when the whole internet is a shambolic evidence of human failure is absolutely useless.
"Bullying is wrong, lets bully the bullies!".. no wonder the world is ****ed
Your “let’s not unveil the poor bullies” approach, is part of the problem.
A blank cheque to be as vile as you want against anyone or anything anonymously on the internet, inciting others, lying, destroying innocent lives. People have committed suicide.
Who gives a **** about some middle aged cowards, tapping away spite against people acting in good faith trying to help us all.
If he was banned for spouting crap, why is a parody account given a free pass to post the same nonsense?
I'd rather all posts of this type were vetted. Better moderation needed.

So out of the billion or so cyber bullies out there (and in here) you unvail a few and then what? It ends? The whole internet stuff is changing human nature, this is just very common behaviour and it will just get worse. Solutions and research needs to be discussed, not individuals. It does nothing. This is just a paper succumbing to how people behave, but with their own manners. No positive effect for anyone, just continued polarisation.
De-digitalization is the only solution. Social medias must go at the very least.
Do you not think that exposing some of them may make others think before typing if they know they may get named and shamed?
I’m pretty sure social media is here to stay though. Not something I make much use of but it does good for a lot of people.
Also, so much business is done and money made over social media, it’s simply not going to be possible to call a halt to it.

I think the world was a better place before the internet ..... sorry NSC .... simply because people used to speak and look at each, truly engage. Now almost everyone over ten, including us, stares at a small screen, families disappear after dinner to their devices, people in pubs and clubs stare at their phone and ignore their mates (I first saw this at he 2004 Play Off Final weekend in Cardiff ... we stayed for the weekend. Youngsters stood next to each other in venues, ignoring their mates, in a digital trance). It’s now a clinical disorder. Plus kids can be bullied whilst at home online, whilst in all ages before smart phones, bullying stopped at the front door after school.
But like alcohol, it can’t be uninvented.
I haven’t got a clue how it’s going to end up.
But I feel lucky to have lived, socialised and holidayed for many years before smart phones came along.
Just to balance this out, a sister (Ellis) has posted, on Twitter, about her younger brother (13), who loves reading. He started an Instagram account reviewing books that he’s read. The kids at his school started a chat group solely to slag him off, making sure they added him, so he could read their spite.
Within 24 hours, this lad has got over 15K followers, offers of signed books from authors, offers of free books from Waterstones, the Oxford Union etc, and well known tv presenters all backing him up, and encouraging him.
