RDZ’s won nothing of significance and I worry that his brand of football won’t yield a consistency that will win trophies. I’d be surprised if a top club came just now but I’m sure TB and the Barber can lure a great replacement no sweat.

I think it is too big a step for him, Barca don't look that healthy at the moment at as we saw with potter, what is achievable at a well run club with little pressure is not necessarily so at elite clubs.

The most annoying thing would be if he went to Barca and they chewed him up and spat him out within a year (eminently possible).

we would’ve lost a brilliant manager for basically f*** all reason.

If he goes to Barca we can take pretty much anyone below the very elite and proven managers (Ancelotti, Klopp, Pep).
Our last two managers would have left for Chelsea and Barcelona. So just like the reputation we have with young players now the most ambitious managers will know coming here is a stepping stone to a truly massive job.
Edit. Also, the idea of our manager leaving for Barcelona is f***ing nuts. Within a couple of years we'd have had a World Cup winner, a British transfer record and a manager leaving for possibly the biggest club in the world. Insane.

I.e. pay up the release clause, or no dice.

IMO we can't encourage a situation where the agreed release fees for players or staff mean nothing just because the player/staff member really wants to go because the suitor club's status.

Shall we let them have Mitoma for £15m while we're at it, just because it's Barcelona and they are skint?

£10m (or whatever it is) for RdZ isn't a huge amount in the context of football and particularly Barca. They can just sell off more future revenue to cook the books if the REALLY want him.

RdZ would have a hissy fit if he really wanted a player whose release clause was reasonable and the club wouldn't pay it. He wouldn't blame the selling club.

This is my point. Hypothetically, if RDZ really wanted to go (understandably) but Barca couldn't/wouldn't pay the full amount, it would be better for the Albion (IMO) to come to some agreement, rather than having a manager who feels resentment because he couldn't get his dream move. That's all I'm saying. I don't think it's right, or fair, just thinking that the team *could* suffer with a moody Roberto around.

It's a bit of a stretch to go from negotiating on a manager to selling a star player for a massive discount!
