Thinking about it, I seem to remember my mum taking me to a minature railway when I was a nipper, late 1960's. Patcham place springs to mind.
I might have to ring her and ask her...

Nope.
Another clue: it's opposite a school which is named after the road it's in.

Whenever you give us the answer, I hope you can provide photographic evidence. :glare:

Stanford Road
Balfour Road
St Luke's

Erm...

Yes Stanford Road.
No I can't provide evidence - as I said in my original post I'd be interested to see a picture myself. The railway ran in the small gap between the pavement and the London to Brighton mainline. It was operated by the man who lived in the house at the top of Stanford Road next to the garage. I was told about it by my old next door neighbour who went to the school (as did I) - this was probably about the time of WWII.

As did I, but I don't recall anything about a railway line.

I do remember Debbie Beans (or beams), Dennis Koo, Manny Frimpong (a name that's hard to forget) and a few others. Stanford Road was a cracking little school - I love my few years there. If someone has a pic of the railway I'd be glad to see it.

Dammit - I'm really sorry but you keep posting places where I used to live (although I've not - yet - lived in a train station). And this one I lived in twice: that's St Margaret's Place where Sussex Heights now stands, and that's St Margaret's church.

Can't remember the name (oddly), but it looks like it could be the street that runs up to Churchill Square. The one with The Office and 'Rag Freak'. Looks like the old Lamb and Flag at the top left.
