For me, that is the only thing I have found myself moaning about with Kerry.. No-one can knock his commitment, but over the years he has continued to play the above ball to such poor effect. I would guess he is instructed to play the ball, by all the coaches and managers we've had.. he just hasn't mastered it...yet...after 11 years :D!

So what should that tell us?

He missed one pass down the line - when the ball was played back to him and he was being pressed quickly by a striker and both Deans went missing for the pass.

You're wasting your breath. The Mayo knockers will say he missed everything.

Mayo isn't very bright, I think. That's not a criticism, it's just the way it is. He uses ideas like a rope to hang himself with. My favourite is when he grabs the ball for a free-kick and puts it down really quickly as if he has a brilliant idea, then hammers it straight out of play. It's our equivalent of one of Baldrick's cunning plans.

Although, as a world-class fullback myself (before the cruciate ligament damage put paid to my five-year contract at Villa) I sympathise with the long ball down the channel thing. If you haven't got pace then that's usually the only option, you can't piss about with it when you're bringing the ball out so the easiest thing is to lump it and hope that you've got a Brooker or Gary Hart in front of you for damage limitation.

We aren't shit, yesterday we were just plain unlucky, for much of the game we outplayed Crewe but just didn't get the rub of the green. Some games are like that, there will be times this season where we don't play that well but win.

McGhee - Harding, end of.
Wilkins - How many games did Rents play last year?
True, McGhee preferred Harding. During the time between McGhee arrival and Harding's departure, Kerry played in 48 games, Harding 73. Not sure how many were sub appearances, and how many were both playing at the same time.

Rents played 29 times last year, Mayo 38. They played in the same game 14 times, though not necessarily together, and again I'm not sure who started and who was sub in each case, although I do remember Rents being the sub a fair few times at the beginning of the season.

I wonder how many assists he got last season.

This is the problem, and I am just as much to blame. Ridiculous statements are made about how bad he is and so therefore the people who like him then try and bring in a balance but it ends up getting more and more polarised. It isn't black and white as in he is wonderful or he is crap but grey where he has good points (his fitness, his attitude etc etc) and bad points.

The first hour we were the better team, just a shame that we didn't end the last 30 minutes stronger. Wilkins has spoken about this and we really do need to kill games off.

i enjoyed yesterday overall, good day day and all but felling tired today tho!

The main disagreement seem sto be between you and me yet I haven't made ridiculous statements, in fact I think I have been pretty balanced with regard to Kerry.

ex BBC:
Goals: Roberts 22 pen, 79.

Someone needs to sit down and figure what the last three years look like if games were only 70-75 minutes long. I don't think we'd be in the Premiership, perhaps, but it at least feels like we let a lot of games slip away.

Who's got the e-mail address for the FA's rules committee?

Take your scales back to the makers. There's something very wrong with them.

I see unbalanced is saying I think he isn't good enough to play left back but can do a job in midfield.

Ok I will go for the kind of balanced you want;

Kerry's amazing, best player ever, 1000% type of player, never puts a foot wrong, great club man as he has clearly chosen us over Man U and Chelsea and gives fantastic head.

No offence ND, you seem like a really decent bloke but you are clearly connected with the club in some capacity and don't like to hear anyone say bad things about the staff and players. To say Kerry isn't good enough at LB is the truth in the opinion of a lot of fans and there's reasons why they think it. I'm not bad mouthing him as a person but we are a football club not a community outreach program.

It gets a bit irritating when people like Yorkie (who seems like perfectly nice lady I might add) have a go saying people just slag Mayo off when her ONLY defence against the nay sayers is that 10 other managers picked him, a fact that is not as clear cut in favour of Mayo as a player as it makes out.

Also saw that someone says his passing is poor down the line due to the support he gets from the winger. Firstly the winger doesn't make him kick it into touch. Secondly if Rents has no option he hits a long diagonal ball across field at least giving us 50% chance of retaining possession.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Yorkie a number of times, and can confirm she is a "perfectly nice lady" as you state.
