Brezovan - Calamity keeper!?!

Brezovan has apparently stated that he will not sign a new contract anywhere unless guaranteed to be no 1 so on that basis I would say let him go at the end of the season.

If that is true what he said about being number one then get rid.

If it's true what he said, why did he sign with us? We didn't guarantee him first place.

He won't get guaranteed starts anywhere. They don't exist in football, it's like that stupid myth about Virgo being guaranteed a start.

Maybe he'd not go somewhere that he is being specifically signed as back up (like naisbitt), but no player can get a "must start" clause in their contract.

The only person I have heard this from is you, many many times.

I am sure that I either read it in an interview with him or on the radio in an interview when he first came here. I am sure it went on the lines of being asked if he expected to be no 1 he said yes I wouldnt sign for any club unless I was going to be the no 1. So taking that on further he wouldnt sign unless guaranteed being no 1.

could have had brez and kuipers in goal for the free kick and it would have still gone in (from what i could see from c block anyway)

Because he ran out stupidly, got nowhere near the ball and had the ball plonked past him...that's the whole point of this thread...?

2+2 = 10

So Brezovan makes a statement that he WANTs to be number 1 at any club he signs for and then you spend the next few months telling all and sundry that he won't sign for a club UNLESS he is guaranteed number 1.

So another classic case of you trying to turn a non-story into a 'FACT' when it isn't true.

:wrong:

Let's look at the two keepers we have. BOTH have made equal amounts of mistakes this year yet Brezovan decides to make them in the most absurd ways and Kuipers get's away with it by shouting and The Complete Badger.

Are both good enough for the Championship? NO
Will they get us to the Championship? YES

They are both as good as each other, their cons out way the pros. We can find better than what we have, quite easily but keepers make mistakes. Brezovan seems to take time to recover from the mistakes yet if we let him we have a good keeper. Kuipers is Kuipers. he will shout and ball about his mistakes but his love for the club and great shot stopping ability make him a good keeper.

They will get us into the championship albeit making a few mistakes but at this level they are good enough. It's just if we get there

I would not be unhappy with either or both but I think Gus has set his sights higher than most of us. I don't think either will be no 1 next season but that is just a gut instinct with nothing to back it up.

That to me is quite clear he wouldnt have signed for us when he did if he hadnt been told he would be no 1.

Nobody on here was present when Gus spoke to him originally so we do not know what he was or wasnt told or promised.

if a striker misses a penalty or a sitter during a game , its quickly forgotten and we move on , when a keeper makes a mistake it seems he is then deemed useless and another thread appears suggesting we need another, out of all the players on the field the keeper has the most thankless task, yep he f***ed up , he will hold his hands up and say so himself, and probably save a couple of penalties next week and a thread will appear suggesting he is the next Gordon Banks.

Carry on keeping Bernard

But that is the point. You don't know either but are portraying your view, based on an interview, as true.

But the problem is that isn't the quote, is it? You don't remember the interview, you don't even remember whether it was on the radio or in the argus, so how can you be so sure you have remembered the quote accurately? That is your words, coloured by your memory, when you've already decided how you have interpreted whatever was actually said.

He could have said "I wouldn't sign for any club if I didn't think I could be No 1". You hear it as 'would be' then recite it as fact.

That is correct but I have always said apparently as I cannot be certain that it is a fact.

"Apparently" doesn't convey doubt. It doesn't convey "I think read somewhere once that...". It conveys "it seems like" or "it appears that..."

By saying "Apparently..." you're making it seem as if there is evidence that supports (though doesn't prove) it. There is none. There is a hazy memory of something that may or may not have been said.

Either way we shall find out in the next few days/ weeks whether he is offered another contract or signs one and whether we sign a new keeper.

I cannot really understand why people get up tight on here as this is only a site for discussion of personal views and opinions some sound some possibly stupid in the view of others. If I am wrong in my view it is not going to cause the end of the world.

I've said all along that Brez and Kuipers are ok for cover for this season but we should be looking at Owain Fon Williams at Stockport as the long term replacement with one of them as backup next season (preferably Brezovan - sorry Michel!).

Fon Williams is quality, big and young and could do a job at the next level easily

And we should be able to get him at a reasonable price following Stockport's relegation and presumably we have contacts there following our other captures?

I haven't seen Mitch Walker play though. Do you think he is ready to be permanent number two? To be honest, after Gus criticised the loan system, I would think he will want two experienced keepers next year and maybe then loan out Walker. Brezovan definitely deserves to be one of them in my view. We also have to remember that he was without a club up until December and didn't have a pre season so is still improving.

I think the fact that Walker got a pro contract on his 17th birthday, suggests he has the potential to make it. What we need to do is stick with him, not let him go as we did with Sullivan and Martin.

Depends on who is signed. The loan signing of naisbitt would suggest Gus would like an experienced back up, so will try to sign two keepers (including perhaps Brezovan).

He might sign another keeper as back up to brezovan, he might sign another keeper and have brezovan as back up. He might find two keepers h likes more than brezovan and sign them both. Brezovan may get a better offer and move elsewhere of his own accord forcing Gus to buy two more.

I cannot really understand why people get up tight on here as this is only a site for discussion of personal views and opinions some sound some possibly stupid in the view of others. If I am wrong in my view it is not going to cause the end of the world.

Because "he only signed because he was guaranteed no 1" isn't an opinion. It is a "matter of fact" statement (and potentially libellous) and makes out that Gus isn't in charge, or that he or Tony Bloom make ridiculous contracts that handcuff them into team selections, he can't drop the guy if he doesn't perform, that players are in control of team selection etc. It's suggesting players aren't being picked on their ability to perform the way the manager wants, but how good their agent is.

Is it not obvious that when signing a player in any position the manager can only say that you will start as my first choice the rest is then up to you.

Gus did say on Radio Sussex yesterday he wants a squad of 23 - 25 players signed before the start of the season and to only use the loan system in extreme emergencies for injuries etc and that he wants every player to fight for their position and if they want to knock on his door to ask to be loaned out dont bother signing.
