I recall in one of the previous recessions (early 80s maybe) that one of the news programme had a weekly round-up of jobs lost. It made for very grim reading ((I was living up north at the time so it had particular relevance). A similar approach to Brexit-related job losses would make for interesting reading but would the broadcasters have the moral courage to do it?

I remember that well, the slow weekly drip drip drip of job losses British Steel, British Leyland a coal mine or two... Vauxhall then British Rail..... pretty sure it was Alistair Burnett on news at 10 who was the bearer of bad news.

And despite thousands of NSC Brexit posts to the opposite, Brexit is a cluster****

...most of those who voted for this will always defend it; it has begun to define them. Some others simply don't wanted to revisit it (and with good reason at the moment).

Meanwhile lies and divisiveness are becoming normal government practice.

Bloody Worthing!

That's it.

Of course in the interests of balance, they'd now need 2 tickers - one to record the odd tens of jobs lost through Brexit and the other to record the millions created by it. Just how happy would JCFG and the lads be! Joy unconfined (i.e unconfined by reality).

They can lie all they like but ultimately the country is poorer and the standard of living for many is going to fall. Already we have 9 out 10 poorest areas in Northern Europe, worse pensions in the developed world, 15m people with <£100 in savings.

Brexit is pure self harm, nothing less. Its a long way back

Wow, did all that happen on January 1st?

Wow, did all that happen on January 1st?

No silly.

That was the date the EU actually introduced all the rules we had been asking for the last 6 years and finally agreed in December 2020, hence all the problems for fishing, farming, financial services, exports etc etc .

It was also the date that we put in place our negotiated extensions to our 'preferred' NI protocol solution (because we hadn't had time in the previous 6 years to prepare) and decided we wouldn't introduce any Import controls because we hadn't had time to prepare for them either.

Then, 10 weeks after that date that it all came into effect, we decided to break International Law because we were unable to actually implement our 'preferred solution' to the Irish border issue and decided to also run without customs regulations for another year because we weren't prepared for them, Who could've guessed

I can see how it could be confusing because it's hard to keep up, isn't it ? At least now we've left, we can tell the exact figures the UK economy is shrinking by, month by month. Any accusations of 'fear mongering' would have to be fairly stupid, with the ONS figures published.

Say what you like about Dominic Raab...

No, seriously, say what you like. He won’t work it out for a good 18 months.

Well it took him a while to realise Dover - Calais was significant, we shouldn't be surprised
