It’ll all sort itself out in time. Focus is on covid and rightly so. I wouldn’t worry or waste energy moaning about. Pointless. Though I realise some will until they die of smugness or some other Brexit related illness ;)

And my excellent Swedish bird feeder retailer wont ship to the UK now.

But we can now be truly internationalist, we have rule the seas again. And the NHS has £350m per week extra

Quick question for the 5th column collective, where was all the concern for fisherman when they were bemoaning the often devastating impact of the Common fisheries policy?

I'm not crying, I don't work in an industry at the sharp end. All I'm doing is calling out the liars that said it would be the end of red tape.

For fisherman there are now 6 hoops to jump through to get their product to their core export market. As predicted the systems and infrastructure aren't in place.

Again the only thing you have is the hope that someone is suffering in the face of your poor decision making

Why have you used a chart for only a selected period; a period that starts when measures were introduced to help replenish fish stocks?

Over fishing had caused catch levels to reduce.
Conveniently, in the 1990s the UK sold off its fishing rights.

Go and have a (small) Baileys, it's Friday and time to relax GAP.

So why did you post this as POTG and not JCFG ?

And why did you switch accounts to JCFG to post a graph that has absolutely nothing to do with Brexit. Doesn't JCFG let you do serious stuff ?

I believe I know the answer, but I'd like you to confirm it

*edit*

You weren't logged on when I quoted to your post but JCFG was, (of course) and yet within a minute of me posting you had logged on and given me a thumbs up.

Have got Swedish birds in your garden or is the food supplied by a Swedish supplier and you use that to feed indigenous birds?

Annoyingly there is no duty drawback available. We import goods from all over the world, and pay the appropriate duty to HMRC. We then wholesale throughout the EU and these customers/dealers/retail stores now have to pay duty, where they didn’t before. So the dealers are now seeing a price hike of up to 20% which will be passed into the consumer in the EU.

We’ll end up moving to a European DC to stay competitive on price. About 10/12 jobs gone over the next 18 months.

Equally I don’t recall much activity from the usual suspects in the period leading up to 18/09/14 championing the importance of the Union!

Should you not feed "indigenous birds" food from Sweden, or any other country for that matter?

Does anyone know about the Fishing quotas part of the deal ?

I thought that the problems for the Fishing industry were related to the new procedures and rules for exports. Wasn't the reason that the deal was so late in the day down to us insisting on improved fishing quotas ? I've just been reading this which doesn't sound right.

Scottish fishermen eviscerate Boris Johnson’s ‘desperately poor’ Brexit deal in angry letter as losses mount - Scottish Fishermen’s Federation accuses prime minister of misleading public about EU trade agreement

Scottish Fishermen's Federation (SFF) chief executive Elspeth Macdonald accused Mr Johnson of misleading the public about the agreement and giving the industry “the worst of both worlds”. "You and your government have spun a line about a 25 per cent uplift in quota for the UK, but you know this is not true, and your deal does not deliver that," Ms Macdonald wrote.

The prime minister's stated approach, known as “zonal attachment”, would have secured British boats up to 90 per cent of the catch in UK waters for important stocks such as herring. Instead the deal actually means the UK share of the herring catch is just 32.2 per cent and for other fish is even lower, while EU boats have "unfettered" access to British waters.

"Of major concern, however, is the outcome for many key whitefish species. Your deal actually leaves the Scottish industry in a worse position on more than half of the key stocks and now facing acute problems with North Sea cod and saithe in particular.

It's all very well you being 'right' AFTER we've left the EU.
I don't recall any posts from you, over the last 5 years, that suggest you were right BEFORE the clusterf**k.

Typical NSC.

Maybe you could post what you do recall posters on here saying over 6 years ago about the importance of the Union or otherwise ???

ANYTHING BUT BREXIT, ANYTHING BUT BREXIT, ANYTHING BUT BREXIT :lolol:

At least JCFG cannot be accused of not championing the Union. He's always been an ardent Unionist and supporter of the Conservative and Unionist party. Makes it even more surprising that he voted to put a border in the middle of the Irish Sea

People who are tantalised by waving the Union jack also need the importance of the Union pointing out to them? Wouldn't look as nice if you took the blue out !

TBH, the fishermen were something of a sacrifice to get the (flawed) deal over the line. But it was the (customary) gap between Johnson's promises/rhetoric and delivery that must really wind up the fishing communities and gives a bit of common cause with remainers. It's Brexit in miniature and just happens to be an early and quite distinctive example of what's to come.

Stick to simple facts about the Brexit deal please, no opinions about ifs and buts.

After all, nobody would want this thread taken off the topic of the Brexit deal and into native bird species or suchlike, would they ?

Here's the thread for people to indulge in that sort of nonsense https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showthread.php?343854-The-Brexit-Thread&p=9688145#post9688145

This!
Don't panic its only companies that are not used to exporting (like fresh seafood companies) that are experiencing problems with the paperwork, they will soon get the hang of it while the happy blighty fish rot on the quayside, this must be true because George Useless says so.
Meanwhile those ******* French are scooping up our fish in our waters (still) and taking them home, where they actually eat them, even though this was never going to happen.
I suggest we dig up Francis Drake.
Maybe when the minister has stopped singing Away in a manger at her local nativity trail she may get round to actually reading the deal and help out companies that are losing millions.
Also, I'm seriously considering buying a Ford Puma, but this week the price has risen by £2000 because some of the componants are made outside the EU, and you get no extra trim for the price rise, not sure why this should happen to be honest.
Anyone else noticed the prices sneakily going up in the supermarkets, I have, why is this?
If I had known this was going to happen I would never have voted leave, I feel mugged off that the Daily Mail and Twitter lied to me and that nice Gentleman with the top hat, Mr Mogg, assured me that all foreigners will be flogged after January 1st.
I feel a bit of a fool now, there is a poster on here who I put on ignore because he says we are all thickos, as a leaver i hate to admit i was wrong all along but he may have a point.

It is ironic, isn't it. The mad Brexitters declared that the second we stepped through the Freedom Door we would be on sunny uplands. Instead all they can promise now (if you ever hear a peep from them) is 'jam tomorrow'. It is beyond pathetic.

Boris has a free hit at the moment, and can scrabble around behind the scenes, working 25 hours a day* to get everything sorted in a few months under cover of Covid. What could possibly go wrong?

*Ah yes, of course

So to summarise: it's currently a bit of a hassle for small importers to the UK, though there are no explicit extra costs, so some have suspended delivery while they work out how to do it, or if it's still worth their time?

Trying to learn something here among all the complaining.

Conveniently, in the 1990s the UK sold off its fishing rights.

I've never understood this argument, if we sell 75% of what we catch - mostly to the EU, easier to have shared quotas and as you point out we sold our fishing rights years ago

and this is from people who support policies of privitisation of the country's assets, railways, utlities, housing stock etc and whatever next (NHS / Beeb). Taking back control but happy for everything we own going to the private sector and large chunk of our wealth going to foreign hands

If goods are made in the EU then they are duty free and it’s extra paperwork, which is really no issue. If a brand or company manufacturers outside the EU (like a TV, a pair of trainers, a polo shirt etc) that’s where the increased costs start due to the “Rule of Origin”.

Importing Italian made leather goods into the U.K. is easy. Exporting Lambswool sweaters made in Hawick, no problem.

Importing trainers made in China to the UK from a European brand DC (like Adidas for example) then duty to pay to HMRC. Exporting a TV made in China to the EU from a UK brand DC then the seller has to pay duty to their equivalent of HMRC.

But at least we get Blue passports!!

UK companies lose out if they export, UK consumers lose out due to increased prices in some sectors.
