I'm not 100% following the Brexit thing but it feels like people have been saying "its going to happen in x days" for about five years now.

No problem with the mods, merging my thread from this afternoon, but we are weeks away from the biggest economic own goal since the ancient romans took to sucking lead and so little has been sorted, other than a large number of contracts for cronies. Post Trump the UK stands out as being run by the most incompetent and corrupt, bunch of chancers on the planet.

The thing is, it's not now that he is letting them down, fighting as he might claim against cruel circumstance and dastardly opponents. He let them down during the evening of 20 February 2016 when, under no pressure at all, he decided it would be more in his own interests to despatch his pro-Brexit article to the Telegraph and keep the pro-remain one in his back pocket. That was the fateful moment of truth for millions of his fellow Britons, the moment when a self-entitled moral vacuum of an individual triggered a domino-run chain of events that would eventually reduce the country's wealth and influence, and many of its citizens' freedoms. All that's happening now is that the truth is leaking out.

If only there were more business groups, industry leaders saying how great Brexit is going to be and how they are chomping at the bit. Would be great to have some reassurance this is all worth it

I doubt Biden has prejudice against the UK but he doesn't seem to like its leadership. I don't blame him. The Sunday Times today includes this:

From Obama's press aide - "Johnson is a shape shifting creep... we will never forget your racist comments about Obama and slavish devotion to Trump"

From a Democratic source - "Biden and Obama are like family. The Kenyan remark has never gone away. They see Boris and Cummings as Trump and Bannon."

"I f you think Joe hates him you should hear Kamala."

And so on. The problem is, however much Biden might want close working relationships in certain areas with Britain his first point of call will be Boris Johnson, a self-evident lying chancer he has little in common with. The presence of Johnson and his like-minded cronies will further diminish Britain's influence in the world, an influence that was in retreat in any case.

I really can't see how any Johnson-voter or Brexit supporter can complain about this. They knew what they were getting.

The only good thing about this is that it will make it more likely that the UK will be forced into a deal with the EU.

This. And these are the sort of things that happen when you elect a total nob as your PM. Let's hope that he sends some grown-ups to talk about a new trading relationship with the US.

Our old friend GT seems obsessed with his notion that people are calling him old, thick and racist, even though they aren't. Apparently he is fervently against the shouting of insults. I recall him getting furious about it one time, breaking off to call me a lying bullshitter (or possibly bullshitting liar) when he completely misread something I posted. What fun.

He probably thinks we are all members of the metropolitan elite or lefties or something.
