One thing does puzzle me, if, as most think there will be a general elections, it will be a one subject campaign, because of the events of the last few days.
Which party is going to be the leaver, and which will be the remainer?
If Corbyn is still in charge, I can see Labour being so split it won't matter, and if Boris doesn't become Tory leader, which way will they jump.
Im not convinced that the Tories will campaign for a complete break even if Boris is in charge

Agree if an election it will be a one subject campaign. I will vote for whoever is the credible party to keep us in

Is this true, or a spoof? (from a website called Geopolitical Futures) [personally I'm sceptical]

Today, foreign ministers from the European Union’s six founding member states issued an extraordinary statement, declaring that they will “recognize different levels of ambition amongst Member States when it comes to the project of European integration.” This was a landmark capitulation by the major European powers, accepting the idea that uniformity across the bloc is impossible and nations can choose the terms of membership.

They've been doing that for decades

Just came across this priceless comment from a reader of ft.com:

The young, the bright, the educated, the energetic and the ambitious have been stymied by the old, the bigoted, the stupid and the illiterate, driven on by racist propaganda and outright lies. Just as any applicant for UK citizenship has to face an exam on British history etc., perhaps anybody voting in a UK referendum should be required to pass a similar intelligence/current affairs test. I feel very aggrieved that my "remain" vote, based on a tertiary education, many weeks of close study, analysis of newspaper articles etc., should be nullified by some buffoon of a Sun reader who can barely read or write.

Who pays for that twats education? houses feeds and allows them freedom? not just the parents I can tell you

Sums it up...respect your elders.

I would say that old people have every sodding right to a vote, to be allowed a say.
These 'old people' many of you speak of, fought for our country. For our freedom. For our right to have a voice. You all used that right they fought so hard for on Thursday and you should be ashamed of yourself if you've even used that as an ammunition point.

I understand many of these veterans I speak of are now no longer with us, but their children are. And their grandchildren. And I'm pretty sure they haven't forgotten what these 'old' people did for us. They fought for peace and unity in the world, but they also fought for our country. How could a group of people be anymore torn with which way to vote than these? They may be 'old', but I sure as hell don't believe that the Grandparents of today would want to jeopardize the world of tomorrow.

Agree with all of this and perhaps if they directed a bit more of their hot air towards the 70% of their age group that did not bother voting for their futures rather than the people who turned out to exercise their democratic right to vote

It would be costly but we can stop them using the pound...it will be very costly if they keep the pound too..indeed they appear so http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-29133217

The article is Carney saying they wont have power over the currency, the point i made. We cant stop them. It will be costly for them but as brexit has shown sometimes people are willing to forgo some wealth for they perceive as higher principles. Welcome to a new smaller country

I'd call spoof,
It would be the biggest news, in a big news day if it were true

Delightful, it's a shame so many of the young, the bright, the educated, the energetic and the ambitious aren't more gracious in defeat and feel the need to stigmatise and sneer at those less fortunate than themselves.

How many voted that were eligible for voting? of 18-24 year olds....My 18 year old did and she voted leave, she works 30 hours per week and studies and has passed her driving test and pays her bills half these muppets don't even know the real world.

Yep we do choose it. Free trade, NO uncontrolled freedom of movement. Our justice is precedent. Our decision is final. We deal with you and support you militarily. If 'emergencies' of finance within that block occur then each individual country should be able to say what they would like to contribute. It's called compromise, co-operation and equality and at the same time being held to account for idiocy.

There in lies the problem. Who are they?

I have been wondering about this all weekend and I wonder if we can take some of the issues out of party politics. Take the NHS, we all agree the NHS is great, we all want to keep it but it does need reform. The careful planning and managing is not a task that will take 6 months or a few years but to do a proper job it probably needs longer than the lifetime of a government.

So rather than the adversarial Tory/Labour debate on the NHS and appointing an MP who has no experience or specific skills to oversee the NHS, just a preconceived ideology - if the Tories and Labour could somehow come to an agreement that it's, say a 10 year plan headed up by the very best candidate with the best team, regardless of politics and that the budget will be guaranteed at a minimum of X over the lifetime of the reform - the NHS effectively becomes an NGO and not just fit for purpose but the very best that it can be and for decades to come.

And likewise education. I really don't understand how or why education and health are subjects that free marketeers or socialists in the UK should feel the need to continue trying to control and direct.

Yeah us buffoon Sun voters have shown this arrogant, ignorant, jumped up dickhead how democracy works and he doesn't like it.Aaaaaahh diddums.Quite frankly, who cares what he thinks apart from the other arrogant, ignorant, jumped up dickheads who 'read' the FT.Most of them probably hide behind it while they try to look up women's skirts on the train.

It's a crazy idea, but it might just work!

I liked these comments by the leader of the Labour group on Brighton & Hove City Council:

Brighton and Hove is an international city, facing the European continent across the narrow Channel that separates us physically if not culturally or economically from mainland Europe. Our universities take in students from all over the globe, as do our language colleges. Eleven million tourists come each year, many to visit our historic Pavilion, built two centuries ago by a German prince to resemble an Indian palace on the outside, and a Chinese one inside. It isn’t, as some assumed, a mosque.

The vast modern European headquarters of American Express, completed in the past few years, employs more than any other business in our city, with a workforce blending the local and the global. Nearby work is underway on a £450 million hospital refurbishment that will create a regional centre for the 21st century, one that could not function without doctors, nurses and support staff from all over the world.

Our current and future conference centres depend on international convention business. Our creative digital industry sells to Europe and beyond. Our annual Festival and year-round cultural programme showcases arts from every corner of our planet.

Our city depends and thrives on tourism, healthcare, culture and businesses that in turn depend on being open to Europe and the world. We are indebted to those who come here, spend here, live here, pay taxes here, employ here, study here. I send out a clear message today that you are just as welcome tomorrow as you were yesterday.

Right. **** this. We're ALL up shit creek and we need a paddle. Now, not in three months.

Fellow Remain voters: Enough already. Yes, we're all pissed off but navel gazing ain't gonna help. Not all 17 million Leave voters can possibly be racist northern pensioners without an O level to their name. Maybe they have a point about this quitting the EU thing? Maybe not. Whatever, we are where we are and no amount a whinging is gonna change that. Allegedly we're the intelligent ones, so get your thinking caps on.

Leave voters. Well done. Good game. We hear you. Now you need to get stuck in to the aftermath and not just piss off back to Wetherspoons. (Just banter, twats!). And the first person to say they "want their country back" gets deported to ****ing Gibraltar. OK?

Politicians.

David. **** off. Shut the door behind you. Now.

George. You may be a **** but you're our ****. Plus you know the passwords for our Junior Savers account. Get your calculator. Drop the face-like-a-slapped-ass routine. You're on.

Boris. Sorry mate. That photo of you abseiling by your scrotum over the London Olympics while waving a Union Jack can't ever be un-taken. Plus, you'll never be able to appear on Question Time again without some sturdy Glaswegian nurse asking where the **** her 350 million quid is. Not only will she have a very good point, she'll be wearing a T shirt that shows you gurning in front of that ****ing bus! No captains hat for you I'm afraid.

Theresa. You're in charge love. Get the biggest shoulder pads you've got. We need Ming The Merciless in drag and you'll scare the shit out of 'em.

Nicola. Yep. Fair cop. You probably could get us on a technicality, as could London. But we ****ing love shortbread. And oil. And to be honest you're probably the best politician we've got, so we need you on side. Sort your lot out and we promise never to mention that Jimmy Krankie thing again (although it is pretty uncanny) and we'll make you a Dame once we're sorted. Bring Ruth Davidson. She kicks ass.

Opposition party. We'll need one. Someone take Jeremy and John back to the British Legion Club where you found them. Take Nigel as well. Give back their sandals, buy them a pint, then go to Heathrow and collect David Milliband. **** it. Lets gets Ed Balls as well. He keeps George on his toes. I think he works on the lottery kiosk at Morrisons now?

Oh. And Mark Carney. Give him a knighthood and tell him to keep that shit coming. We definitely need more of that good shit!

Everyone set? Right. Hold the Easyjet. We're going to Brussels and this ain't no hen party.

It's a crazy idea, but it might just work!

I wouldn't go that far but all parties are on a hiding to nothing with the NHS and education and they really are too big and important to be messed around with every five years so make them NGOs so they have the freedom and the time to change for the best.
