So what’s your alternative?’ demand Euro-enthusiasts. ‘D’you want Britain to be like Norway? Or like Switzerland? Making cuckoo clocks? Is that what you want? Is it? Eh?’

The alternative to remaining in a structurally unsafe building is, of course, walking out; but I accept that this won’t quite do as an answer. Although staying in the EU is a greater risk than leaving — the migration and euro crises are deepening, and Britain is being dragged into them — change-aversion is deep in our genome, and we vote accordingly. Europhiles know that most referendums go the way of the status quo, which is why their campaign is based around conjuring inchoate fears of change.

What is the alternative? Well, all the options involve remaining part of the European free-trade zone that stretches from non-EU Iceland to non-EU Turkey. No one in Brussels argues that Britain would leave that common market if it left the EU. Nor, in fairness, do Remainers. Instead, they talk about jobs being ‘dependent on our trade with the EU’, hoping that at least some voters will hear that line as ‘dependent on our membership of the EU’.

So when every non-EU territory from the Isle of Man to Montenegro has access to the European free trade area, which model should we follow? The nations arguably most comparable to Britain, being neither microstates nor ex-communist countries, are Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. All three prefer their current deal to ours: 60 per cent of Icelanders, 79 per cent of Norwegians and 82 per cent of Swiss oppose EU membership. Who can blame them? Norway and Switzerland are the wealthiest and second-wealthiest nations on Earth

You are against present levels of immigration which is a legitimate view to have but the specific question you ask is no different to asking "How will our hospitals and schools in the South East cater for the growing numbers of people moving from the north of England?" Infrastructure develops to the meet the needs, as others have explained, but at the same time the best long term way to discourage people moving from Bolton to Brighton is to make Bolton better. That's the principle behind running the country (or it should be) and it is also the principle behind the EU.

You will, I expect, says there's a big difference between people moving from Bolton and people moving from Bratislava. The difference is that the latter are foreigners, and I guess that is why you are complaining about them. Fair enough.

But the numbers coming from say Bolton to Brighton simply do not outweigh that of immigration and you know it..

Is there no cut off point with you. ,
do we just simply keep inviting in as many people as who want to come here and keep building the extra hospitals schools etc to cater for them ?
what about the cost of this and who exactly is expected to pick up the bill ?
and whereabouts exactly do you suggest that we put all of these extra hospitals and schools ?

So in order to make way for your sad pathetic idea of utopia... besides everything else we to do away with much of our, treasured and picturesque landscapes... go get f*cked. .

1. You ask a question.
2. I have a go at answering it, accepting the legitimacy of your opinion, but giving my own view as you asked.
3. You disagree with what I try to say and tell me to 'go get f-----'.

And so the Brexit case develops.

Exactly. A typical Brexit response when anyone challenges their weak hard-right agenda. He lost the argument. What a thicko numpty.

So only 3% of Turkeys land mass is in Europe yet Turkey might one day be part of the EU.So where does that end. Will Israel who play Euro qualifiers be considered.Australia who are now competitors in the Euro song contest. Why does a country have to be in Europe to be part of this large trading/economic entity. If it's deemed a certain country can bring something to the table then who's to say countries outside of the EU won't be considered if they can make the EU more powerful. The more countries in the EU the more powerful it becomes and so it has more power when negotiating trade deals. We can walk over other countries. We can take advantage of poorer countries in Africa etc.We can be the nasty bully boys of the world and forget about fair trade. We can give China a good kicking.Who's to say Merkel the head of the EU hasn't got this idea in her head.

Looks as if the support for Brexit is falling in the polls. I guess they are going to accentuate the anti-immigration angle because having lost the economic argument the anti-immigration issue is all they have got left. Looks like the Remain In will walk this referendum.

Anti-immigration is all they have got left? You make it sound such a minor issue. It's as big and important an issue as Remains only issue that being the economic one.The difference is that with the economic argument no-one truly knows if we are better in or out. With the migrant issue we already know as fact what impact that is having plus it's fairly easy to forecast where that is going.Forecasting economics is far harder.

crikey, how mental extreme far left are you in that noggin of yours that you think RMT are hard right

RMT Press Office:

TRANSPORT UNION RMT today set out six key reasons why it will be advising members to vote to the leave the EU in the forthcoming referendum:

1. Leave the EU to end attacks on rail workers

New EU rail policies are set to further entrench rail privatisation and fragmentation. That will also mean more attacks or jobs and conditions and EU laws will make it impossible to bring all of rail back into public ownership.

2. Leave the EU to end attacks on seafarers and the offshore workers

The EU has promoted undercutting and social dumping leading to the decimation of UK seafarers. The same is now happening in the offshore sector. EU directives also require the tendering our public ferry services.

3. Leave the EU to end attacks on workers’ rights

It’s a myth that the EU is in favour of workers. In fact the EU is developing a new policy framework to attack trade union rights, collective bargaining, job protections and wages. This is already being enforced in countries which have received EU “bailouts”.

4. Leave the EU to end Austerity

If you join a union you expect members of the union to protect each other in times of trouble. The European Union has done the opposite. It has used the economic crisis to impose austerity and privatization on member states. Instead of protecting jobs and investment EU austerity is driving UK austerity.

5. Leave the EU to stop the attack on our NHS

The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) trade agreement being negotiated between the EU and the United States will promote big business at the expense government protections and organisations including our NHS! Environmental regulations, employment rights, food safety, privacy laws and many other safeguards will also be secondary to the right of corporations to make even bigger profits.

6. Leave the EU to support democracy

The vast majority of the laws that affects our lives are now made in the EU and not the UK. We have no say over those Laws. As the late Tony Benn said in 1991…

“We are discussing whether the British people are to be allowed to elect those who make the laws under which they are governed. The argument is nothing to do with whether we should get more maternity leave from Madame Papandreou [a European Commissioner].”

RMT will be promoting the six key points direct to members across all sectors of the transport industry through the union’s RMT NEWS, through branches and reps and through the union’s social media platforms.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said:

“RMT is proud to stand up for the tradition of progressive and socialist opposition to the European Union, an organisation wedded to privatisation, austerity and attacking democracy.

“It would be frankly ludicrous for a union like ours to support staying in a bosses club that seeks to ban the public ownership of our railways, attacks the shipping and offshore sectors and embraces the privatisation of the NHS and other essential services that our members depend on.

“RMT has set out the six core reasons for our members to vote to leave and we will be campaigning hard on this platform.”

How?

Take away the many migrants on minimum wage who don't pay tax and there are millions of them. They come here and take the low paid jobs.Take away the many migrants who work cash in hand.Take away the migrants who do pay tax but are just replacing the tax a British worker in the same job would have paid. It's not extra tax.Even if you did take into account their tax paid it's wiped out and more by how much they cost us to maintain.Housing, schools,NHS,police etc etc.Your argument is poor.
