No, there will be checks, the DUP have caved in essentially, it's thought to be largely just a reworded agreement so they can claim it isn't the original deal.

So they couldn't overcome the simple logical issue of where to put the border between the EU and Northern Ireland and lied about it throughout ? Well at least with it being highlighted right at the beginning of the whole clusterf*** and discussed at length throughout this thread nobody was stupid enough to fall for it ............... oh :dunce:

Never mind, looks like we are finally going to 'Take Back Control' of our borders, put some controls in place, and realise a Brexit benefit. That benefit being totally f***ing over the cost of living again, but 'Taking Back Control'. It's what the people wanted :shootself

Maybe they could introduce a new law that overrules simple logic flaws in their 'plan' and makes them illegal :lolol:

From what I’ve seen, and I’m not an expert, it seems to be part of a loosening around certain goods of EU restrictions plus clearer labelling of NI only products, but it’s not a completely open border (it suits people to pretend it is).

As for people, slightly different as the Common Travel Area already exists between the UK and Ireland.
Its a fudge that kind of works, notably it makes GB divergence harder.

We really need the CU restored but no party has the bottle, I've written to my LD MP and said what the f**k are you guys doing? Short of that there are things that can be done to improve things, Labour are quiet but will take some steps (if they get it)

Alas Hunt has been told the UK economy is f**ked and significant tax cuts are now off the table. Every day we pay the price for that ludicrous 2016 vote.

And yes where are are favourite Brexit posters? They were all over this thread in Feb 2021 when they were convinced without Brexit there would have been no AZ jab. Heard little since...

I really don't get the Lib Dem position. I don't like the Labour position but I do at least understand where it comes from of negating it as an issue entirely. But I really don't see why the Lib Dems aren't out advocating for at least a Customs Union, if not Single Market, it's not like they have anything to lose and it's hardly "betraying their voters" to advocate for it given they've been the most unashamedly Europhile party for a generation.

They're gone from one extreme to another, from cancelling Brexit in 2019 to don't mention the B-word. Unless you're a bit fash, the UK media give minor parties little airtime. That said ask most people what the LD's are about today and they won't really be able to tell you

Sooner or later, even those running away from it insisting they don't want to talk about it will have to face up to it. Just 36 months from us leaving the protection of the EU

The Standard View: Brexit is a failure, but rejoining the EU will fall to future leaders

It is almost passé at this point to state that the UK’s exit from the EU has been a disaster. Sure, the walls haven’t come tumbling down, the UK economy continues to bump along, but it bears repeating: Brexit is a slow puncture that has made Britain, and its people, poorer.

As a matter of fact, not all that slow. A recent report by Cambridge Econometrics commissioned by City Hall finds that the UK economy is almost £140 billion smaller because of Brexit, while the capital’s economy has shrunk by £30 billion. It also reveals the average Londoner was nearly £3,400 worse off last year.

Little wonder that an exclusive Ipsos poll for the Evening Standard finds that 57 per cent of adults believe Brexit has been more of a failure, with 13 per cent saying it has been more of a success.

Unfortunately, even if we go back into the Single Market/Customs Union in the next few years, the impact will still be felt for decades to come, and Britain will never get close to the economic power it was in Europe and the World pre 2016.

Am I allowed to say that the people who got taken in by this blindingly obvious pack of lies were, at best incredibly naive, and at worst incredibly stupid, yet ? ???

Some (well someone) might argue that it would have shrunk far more had we not left the EU. And the, if you factor in Jeremy Corbyn.... Very plausible narrative.

Hang on, we were told over and over again that the Leave voters in 2016 knew exactly what they were voting for? Why are they unhappy, this is what they wanted?

Well if they are very well off, with no mortgage, a property or three, and a good level of pensions and investments the statement may have some validity. If they are seriously loaded and picked up a few multi million pound Government Covid contracts or had Capital Management companies and made serious money out of betting on what would happen to Britain as a result of Brexit then, even I have to admit, they probably have a very good case

If that wasn't the case, and they find the cost of living a little worrying, then they were just a bit ...... well ..... stupid

When I heard food checks were being done 22 miles from Dover, I thought great they're doing them in Calais. Sounds secure

Sadly not, 22 miles into Kent near Ashford.

Those poor naive individuals that were taken in by the various lies of that nasty Vote Leave campaign.

It's absolutely dreadful the way they are now suffering from the economic crash, so if they would like to pm me their names, addresses, bank account details and mother's maiden name, I will do all I can to help

The Brexit bill: £100bn hit to UK exports as toy, medical kit and jewellery sales slump

Businesses that make an array of products including sporting goods, children’s toys, jewellery and medical equipment have struggled the most with border costs imposed by the UK’s decision to leave the EU, leading to 30 per cent less trade between 2020 and 2023 than if Britain had stayed in the trading bloc.

Since leaving the single market, Britain’s export growth has been sluggish behind other advanced economies, leading to missed growth in goods and services exports of around £23bn quarterly, the analysis reveals.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-uk-economy-cost-damage-b2491585.html

Well who could have seen that coming ? Obviously not the NSC Brexit supporters who campaigned for, voted for and created this complete clusterf*** and then ran away blaming everyone else.

Refusing to take any responsibility for what they have done, and now noticeable only by their complete absence from anything outside of their very own 'NSC ignore' defined echo chamber. It was obvious all along that it would be left to the grown ups who campaigned for Remain to try and clear up after they had had their little temper tantrum.

Complete idiocy :dunce:

I suspect the motives of the last of the diehard Brexiters. They really want us all just to stop talking about Brexit but you just know if there had been ANY tangible benefits from leaving the EU they would be delighted to publicise it!
