What makes you think that potential improvement in the US economy will improve the economic outlook for the UK?

The difference is that being in the EU means you are actually part of it and wedded to any success or failure. Hitching yourself to the wagon of the US means you are hoping to be thrown some crumbs from the table of an economy that really doesn't give two fucks about you. Trump is very clear that he is going to do what's best for America with tarrifs on foreign goods and the like, I struggle to see how this will benefit any other country aside from his own.
Fair question and let’s be clear, securing a deal will take top order statecraft from an establishment and political leadership that looks and behaves decidedly sub standard.

In macro trade terms we are small beer to the US, it’s the top tier exporters that Trump will target with tariffs, and that means China and Germany, but by extension that means the EU.

Here is the sweet spot for the U.K. to exploit, we keep far enough from the EU that we can secure a discrete US/U.K. trade agreement, all the indicators are that one will be on offer.

I don’t doubt there will elements of that which will make some shit the bed however that’s life, overall a free trade agreement with the US would be positive, not least a US performing well economically.

Otherwise we can stick 2 fingers up to Trump and economically speaking chain ourselves to a corpse.

Remember when those of us who said doing Brexit while not having a plan for it was a pretty daft idea were met with howls of derision and anger, including on this very thread?

Turns out that’s now the official stance of the Tory leader.

“Brexit was a mistake.”

It folk like this who have been hit hard enough in the pocket that the lack of rising bank balances now apes the shame of admitting that you were totally wrong.

It’s people like this who influence the cerebrally insignificant in our society and bring about another referendum that could see us rejoin the EU, turbo charge growth and the economy and not have a lower GDP than Poland by 2030!

It must surely be nearing on 70% - 30% to rejoin now.

Tony Parsons. Why is he relevant? Seems to me that when he croaks there'll be the normal urgency to start a RIP thread that hardly anyone will give a toss about.

But she still thinks Brexit was a good idea.

It's like saying that the reason our operative died when jumping off a cliff with no parachute was because he had no plan.
Meanwhile she has basically labelled all her tory predecessors as idiots.

I'm beginning to think that Badenough has even less political nous than Corbyn.

In the unlikely event at the next GE in 4.5 years the Conservatives said they would start the process to rejoin The EU and were the only party to have this in their manifesto would you vote for them?

If they had moved to the centre and embraced One Nation Conservatism with someone like Rory Stewart at the helm. Then yes. 100%.

But to put it in perspective, you thought Boris and Nige were telling the truth when they got you to vote for Brexit
