Why should there be any need to “take back control” in the first place?

Why would any democratic country chose to be wrapped up by policies or dictates that are enforced by an unelected institution and which have not been approved by their democratically elected Government……..

https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/IP_22_2689

No need for answers on a post card.

why would anyone choose to sit in a queue at Dover for 6 hours?

Unless you could name an EU legislation or example of being part of the EU that hindered people in such a direct way?

Chaos at Dover.

Is this a simply a logistics issue or politics at play? Just a punt but we have a so called new P/M to be announced by September,so from The EU,s point would it be a smart move to make travel to France a awkward squad moment in the hope that The EU would get a pro friendly EU Prime Minister? Little odd that it's effectively six weeks off school holidays along with Conservative leadership election campaign.

I’ve just posted this on the Tory meltdown thread. It might be more appropriate here…….

However many booths, lanes or personnel there are, it is our government which made the choices about borders and not to be part of a more liberal regime. I think the expression is “hoist with your own petard”.

Having experienced a couple of times in Europe the traffic chaos on black Saturdays - the days in August when everyone goes on holiday or comes back, this particular weekend was always going to be a problem….. and how. If you have 4 people in a car, that’s 4 passports to check and stamp, and that is all necessary because of the need to check that we don’t stay in Europe more than the 90 days we can without visas.

It was our government which made the choices which made all this necessary, all for the sake of seeming bullish and well ‘ard about border control……. Which is what the people (allegedly) want. It’s a problem largely of our own making.

The arse end of Hangleton
There is an answer to avoiding the delays at Dover ..... go via Newhaven ... been three times this year and not an issue at all either end. Well that's not true, coming back Border Control in Newhaven are frustratingly slow to process cars - I think they put all the simpleton employees in Newhaven.

Predictable. The French Government lied about Liverpool fans at the Champions League Final. An enormous cover up of systematic organizational failure that was obvious to all and exposed in their public enquiry. The whole thing was particularly sick given the cover ups over here over Hillsborough. The reaction of most of NSC ? Blame the scousers. Whom should we blame this time I wonder.

Shame they didn't write on the side of the bus:-

Chaos At Dover.

Not that it would have made any difference.

So you are saying that Britain didn't get rid of freedom of movement and force the introduction of new procedures at the borders and that it's some huge cover up by the French

The ignore function doesn’t really work as it should so I am asking you politely to stop replying to my posts.

The Ignore function works perfectly. But if you stop posting foolish and misleading statements about the reasons behind the delays at Dover, I will stop pointing out how foolish the statements are and the real reasons for the delays, rather than some French conspiracy nonsense

Deal ?

Isn’t France also the only country that requires covid status checks? Another hold up at border control.

I am in France, I arrived on Thursday - Newhaven to Dieppe. It was fairly easy, though slower than normal. They didn't check my Covid status - I was told at Newhaven to have it ready as they may be doing spot checks.

The delays are clearly Brexit related - we have to have our passports stamped to prove that we haven't overstayed the 90 days in 180 limit.

This is a situation created entirely by the British, and it is pathetically predictable that certain individuals refuse to accept this clear fact. Just another manifestation of the absolute cluster**** of Brexit.

The bloody French innit. No wonder people risk their lives in inflatable dinghys to escape the cheese eating surrender monkeys to get to Rwanda via a friendly country.

Staff at Dover have said that the French offered last winter to add additional staff this side of the channel to help speed things up around visa processing before we got to the summer chaos, trying to help us out and pre-empt exactly this trouble, but the government refused the £33 million they'd have to part fund it to add the extra lanes and booths. What we're seeing is the consequence of Government intransigence and of course the consequence of being a country where the majority chose to end easy travel. Zero surprise the French get the blame because when something is ideologically driven not pragmatically or logically driven it's literally impossible to admit responsibility. Don't forget too, it's only making major headlines now because it's holiday makers. There have been regular 20+ mile queues of lorries for months.

The Port of Dover stated early today that the French border controls were 'fully manned' from first thing this morning. Good news then that the delays today are only in the region of 5 hours. It is a direct result of Brexit.

Oh, and biometric tests being introduced by the EU in September so people from foreign countries will face further delays, that'll be someone elses fault of course.

I travelled from Portsmouth to Caen yesterday, the ferry left 10 mins late and arrived on time. Ferry was rammed and passport check and check in at Portsmouth was a little slow. It was also a little slow in Caen but no worse than expected when passports need checking and stamping and covid certs checking. No agenda imo just inefficiency/lack of staff to deal with the traffic volume at Dover and Calais
