Because of the battering in general you get from the Remain crowd, the Brexiteers are simply sitting quietly until they get a ballot box in front of them.... remember the last election?.. if you so much as hinted you may vote Conservative, boom... the pseudo intellectual left were on you in double quick time. Brexiteers in general are keeping their power dry.

I suspect it is the exact opposite.

There is some analysis on the discrepancy between online and phone polling .... but I can't remember what it said.

Overall I am surprised the leave vote is still relatively resilient considering the constant stream of opinions and reports painting such a negative future for Brexit. Still think Remain will win but there is still a chance as Brexiteers are more likely to vote.

And I think there's every chance that the Brexiters will win - they've got the beguiling messages and the sexy songs and can easily tailor their messages to get gut reactions. One comfort for the Remainers is that what people do in the privacy of the booth might not reflect the heat and noise of the campaign, as was shown by the Scottish Referendum and, for that matter, by the disparity between the posts on this thread and the results of the associated poll.

Brawls between assembly members from Turkey’s ruling AK Party and the pro-Kurdish opposition have delayed efforts to pass legislation on a migration deal with the European Union, but the country’s EU minister said a deadline next week would still be met.
Deputies threw punches, pushed and tried to restrain each other in the assembly late on Wednesday in a row over military operations targeting Kurdish militants in Turkey’s largely Kurdish southeast. The acting speaker announced at the end of Wednesday’s session that, following these scuffles, the parliament would now not meet again in full session until Monday. Members had been expected to work on Friday and Saturday on legislation needed for Turks to secure visa-free travel to Europe, a key part of Ankara’s deal with the European Union on stopping uncontrolled migration to Europe.
Brussels aims to propose waiving visas for Turks on May 4 but that is strongly opposed by some EU member states. The EU has said Turkey fully meets fewer than half of the 72 criteria and that its conditions will not be softened. “If the security surveillance law had been completed last night, as of today Turkey would have done what is required,” EU Affairs Minister Volkan Bozkir told broadcaster NTV. “The 10 or so remaining articles … will God willing be passed on Monday. But we can effectively say it’s done. After that the 72 expectations are met from our perspective.”

72 sounds a familiar number. There's no way Turkey should be allowed visa free travel, let alone EU membership

THIS POST HAS HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD! BRILLIANTLY WRITTEN!

I can't understand why anyone can fall for all the scaremongering. If anyone wants to know the truth, just ask people my age, that remember life in Britain before the EU. I left school in 1965, when there was 10 jobs for every school leaver. There was no need for a law setting a minimum wage. Most people who chose to save for a deposit could afford to pay their mortgage. There was no such thing as negative equity. Britain's industry was the envy of the world. We traded freely with the whole world. We had a commonwealth that flourished by trading with us. Once we were conned into joining the common market, we were forced to abandon our commonwealth, with just a few concessions we had to beg cap in hand for, For example we were allowed to buy butter from New Zealand as long as we put a levy on it that went straight to the EU, but doubled the cost of it to us. We had to stop buying from Australia in favour of the EU. This understandably upset Australians. I spoke to quite a few, who said that because of Britain's back stabbing, they rebelled by stopping buying British cars in favour of Japanese cars. Within 10 years of being in the EU. we had lost over half of our industries and the decline has continued up until now. Napoleon called us a nation of shopkeepers. That is exactly what the EU has reduced us to. If we get out of Europe we can rejoin the world trading stage and get Britain back to where it was. We will be able to subsidise our industries where necessary, something that the EU prevent us doing. We allowed our steel industry to be destroyed because we were not allowed to support it. The cost of benefits paid to out of work steelworkers far outweighs the cost of subsidies. Lets just get Britain back and put the Great back in Britain.

Yeah that's right. By leaving the EU we will be miraculously transported back to 1965 and suddenly have a massively successful manufacturing industry employing millions. What could possibly go wrong?

The poster never stated that we could "be miraculously transported back to 1965", i suggest he was stating that we did not need the EU then and we do not need them now.

History which some seem to feel embarrassed about

Exactly, which is why some of our history has been taken off the curriculum......so as not to offend. I daresay if things continue in 50 years our history will state that "In 2016 the EU wanted the UK to leave, but they voted unanimously to stay"........ Meanwhile the "EUUK State, formerly known as the UK apologise for starting WW2 in 1939".

Manufacturing has moved on, it just doesn't need as many people as it used to. Here's an article that's worth a read: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/27/business/economy/the-mirage-of-a-return-to-manufacturing-greatness.html
I know. I'm an accountant and I live in Sheffield. We deal with many small and medium firms who produce specialised steel products, many of which are really successful. The uncertainty over this bullshit has affected a lot of them and I hate to think what will happen if the brexit nutters get their way.

These are facts, from the horses mouth of business owners. Successful business owners who make lots of money and employ lots of people. In manufacturing.

Which is why I call utter bullshit on that earlier nonsense.

"The uncertainty", the uncertainty will be over and if it is a leave vote then these businesses will soon get back to normal. "The uncertainty" is the same scenario when a GE is nearing.

Trite and shallow rubbish that attempts to blame others for all the things our lovely old country has got wrong over the past 50 years. As long as some people play their puerile game of blaming others for our own mistakes we will find it almost impossible to recover. Laying the responsibility for our de-industrialisation at the doors of the EU is particularly risible, especially in the week that France signed a multi-billion submarine manufacturing deal with Australia. There's so much wrong with this piece that commenting on it is like trying to repair a car that's just gone over a cliff. Who on earth wrote it?
