There will surely come a point though where the EU go "this is pointless, we won't grant a further extension" - given even the rules now suggest an extension can only be granted if there is a 'good reason' - I'd suspect Parliament not knowing it's arse from it's elbow wouldn't be considered a good reason !

I would think that all the time we are paying our not insignificant membership fees, and electing MEPs who don't participate in their decision making processes, to the benefit of all other EU members, they won't think it's pointless.

Imagine, after 40 years of being a pain in the arse, wanting things all our way, getting concessions that piss off all the other members, we were to suddenly send 29 'British negotiators' who, instead of continuing to be a pain in the arse making sure Britain continues to maintain and improve it's 'good deal' decide not to participate and turn their backs to snub everyone.

That's definitely the point they'll want to get rid of us

It's not stalking, it's pointing out the stupidity of some of your posts. Maybe if you didn't say so many stupid things, I may not feel compelled to correct you so much.

It's just that I feel it is my responsibility as part of my charity work, to educate, inform and bring harmony where there is discord

This is great stuff.
Liz Truss has just admitted that she has no idea what the plan is and neither do the cabinet.
Her job? International trade secretary.
"I don't need to know what the deal is" she said.
And leave mugs fall for this, it a laughable farce.
Until it's announced, I think they want it rejected deliberately.
What's going to happen if the cabinet don't like it?

I wouldn't trust Truss to manage a shopping list - she makes Grayling look like an intellectual heavyweight.

If you think Truss is bad, wait until the day they let Kwasi do an interview  (They won't, of course)

This is the man who was appointed to Cabinet the day after everyone else as his phone had run out of charge and no one could contact him

If anything, Johnson's speech at the Tory conference contained less detail about the border proposals than the Telegraph leak. What a waste of time.

If you didn't see it (lucky), neither Johnson nor the audience had much energy or conviction, and the whole address lacked any sort of meaningful content. Hardly the barnstorming great orator we were promised, and this was in front of his own conference. These are the people who voted him into the position, the safest and most supportive audience he could hope for, and he was dull.

He should have gone to PMQs instead.

Not much new is Boris's speech apart from announcing the Tories have eliminated UK debt. Wondered if the right wing press will mention that?

Went on about buses on the week that Wrightbus collapsed because of Brexit, not great

On Brexit, Either the EU accepts tech solution to keep open Ireland border or it is no deal. This isn't going to end well...

Oh god. Not only did his cabinet not know the details of the speech. They didn’t even know they wouldn’t be IN the speech this morning. They are being sent out blind to bat and that’s why all they can say is “ let’s get Brexit done “. Wow. #CPC2019

From Emily Maitlis' Twitter. You get the feeling that perhaps a lot of the Brexit detail was removed from the speech last minute, it was quite short, but it also didn't have any of the 'this deal or no deal' rhetoric Johnson has been using over the last day or two.

Pretty damning on this morning's effort...

Johnson's Brexit plan: No viability, no decency, no hope

https://www.politics.co.uk/blogs/2019/10/02/johnson-s-brexit-plan-no-viability-no-decency-no-hope

It's hard to come up with anything positive to say about this. It shows no understanding of the EU's red lines, no basic moral responsibility towards the problem in Ireland which the Brexit vote created, no consistency with the previous commitments of the British government, no viability, no practicality, no realism, and no concessions at all to the half of the population who voted Remain. It is almost impressive that after all this time they have come up with a proposal that has nothing whatsoever to recommend it.

Or Parliament, now that it is sitting again, actually does something positive for a change and finds a way to get the current deal back for a 4th vote and votes it through. Ken Clarke seems to think that a commons vote for the deal would now pass.

It is really difficult for me to find any redeeming qualities in the PM. Both politically and personally his behaviour is repugnant. Still..... I have to recognise that amazingly he has many enthusiastic supporters who are ready and willing to endorse his damaging rhetoric. I'm not sure what it says about those supporters....

It can't be presented again until there's a new parliament

... as the Conservative Party will endlessly campaign for socialist interventions to be reversed. I don't object to that, providing they use democratic means. Do you?

One difference between the present Conservative Party and the LibDems is that the former is prepared to act unlawfully in order to keep on the table an outcome that was specifically discounted during the referendum.

.... only after the democratic choice of the British people has been enacted. Would you happy if all political parties were as extreme as the Lib Dems and refused to accept democratic results they don't like?

What the Lib Dems are offering is legally, democratically and constitutionally fine. It's certainly an unusual case, but the UK isn't absolutely bound by the referendum result.

You can still be happy or unhappy with the Lib Dem's position, but I don't think what they're offering is extreme. Were I the Leader of the Lib Dems, which as someone who never has been and is unlikely to start being a Lib Dem supporter, it isn't the path I'd take to stop Brexit, but there you go.

Oh really, had not heard that before. Why's that then?

Copied from Erskine May website:

Paragraph 30.28
When a bill has been rejected, or lost through disagreement, it should not, according to the practice of Parliament, be reintroduced in the same session (see also paras 8.6, 20.12, 28.17 ). This follows from the general rule that the same question should not be offered twice.

Each time May brought her deal to a vote, it had to be different enough that the Speaker was satisfied Parliament was voting on something substantially different.
