Sky Sources: Japanese car-maker Nissan is cancelling plans to build its X-Trail model at its plant in Sunderland

More project fear

Tick tock and all that

Wasn't this the flagship, willy waving announcement a long time ago that Nissan would carry on investing in our great country because we have assured them that Brexit will be fine.
I dont think there is much more left for this appalling government to get very badly wrong.

Yeah wasn't arguing that but he has achieved a lot more than drunker or don't you agree

Hard to know, Churchill had many ups and downs in his career, some of the downs were very down, it depends on how you judge success ?

Are we talking about the Republic or Northern Ireland here?
I firmly believe The United Kingdom will flourish and prosper after we have left the EU, The EU is knackered, it is in real trouble, the economy in the EU is about to pancake and to make matters worse for them the second largest net contributor is about to cancel it’s direct debit payment.
As a common market with the initial seven or eight nations it was a very good idea, over the years it has become an all consuming, German/Franco 4th Reich, look at the Gilet jaune movement in France, generally not being reported on in the main stream media, France is almost on its knees, there will be a Frexit within the next few years,
People all over The EU zone are waking up to the corruption within it.
I don’t dislike Europe, I have lived and worked in Europe, Europe is fifty nations, the EU is twenty six sub servant nations coming to heel at the behest of Germany, I’m just glad we’re off out of it.
As I stated earlier the United Kingdom will flourish, it will be a rocky road for a year or so maybe. It we will be good.

This is all interesting stuff and I'm certainly not mocking but where is the EVIDENCE for these things? Exactly how will tearing up trade deals with not far short of 100 countries lead to an explosion in British trade? How will stopping British people from studying, working, living and retiring as of right in the most diverse area of land in the world, from the arctic circle to the mediterranean, improve the quality of their lives? There is nothing wrong with optimism, but ideally it needs to be based on something more concrete than blind faith. I've nothing against religious ardour as long as it doesn't negatively effect that who don't share it. This one seems to.

Nissan actually said that they might assemble the x-trail here if there was a demand for it.As that was in 2016,I presume there hasn't been the necessary demand. If any assembly work does go to the EU,then we should be delighted for our worker comrades there,as it might provide a tiny drop in their mass unemployment.

Soviet Russia used to stretch from the Arctic circle to the Pacific Ocean, and be a damn sight more diverse than the EU.I don't know about you,but I wouldn't want to live there either.

“Nissan is expected to announce that it is cancelling a planned investment at its plant in Sunderland. In 2016 the car maker said it would build the X-Trail SUV in Sunderland after receiving "assurances" from the government over Brexit. The company is expected to say investment will be now be pulled, rather than existing work being halted.”BBC

The town voted leave so I guess you reap what you sow. Real shame for those impacted over time up there, no one winning

Sadly, Sunderland very much fitted the typical ‘leave’ demographic.

1. Very low immigration.
2. Exceptionally low levels of education.
3. High levels of poverty.
4. Low investment.

They’ll now be looking back at how they voted and will realise that they were Turkeys voting for Christmas.

I hope we won’t be seeing a lot more of these stories but I’m fearful we will.

You are pretty much right, lots of towns and cities up north and away from the affluent south east felt left behind and betrayed by an economy that "did not work for them " , sadly voting Out won't change that, it will merely exacerbate that.

Well Russia still stretches from the Arctic circle to the Pacific but I 'm not sure it's much more diverse than the lands between Crete and the Outer Hebrides. If a young 2p preferred his citizenship to stop on the Isle of Wight, then fine. It's a shame young Britons won't have the choice though.

Might need that EU army now that Putin has for the US and the UK apart

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I suspect Putin's plan is to get the UK to pull out of NATO when he gets Trump to.

We'd still stay in our own military alliance with the US at that point.

Putin is certainly pushing a lot of anti-EU disinformation and fermenting EU hatred here. The worse a *no deal* disaster, the bigger the EU blame, the bigger the Brussels Bogeyman.

Putin's goal : The question of why stay in NATO without the US but with the countries we now *hate* ?

Maybe you can find it in the same place where some remainers who had many reservations about the political drive to ever closer union thought voting for the status quo would be sensible or the many remainers who had serious concerns about immigration believed voting for the status quo would make a difference or those (most amusingly of all) that believed a vote to stay would have meant the UK suddenly leading the agenda to direct the EU in a direction more to our liking. #unicornmembership

Someone will be along shortly with a quote that someone is opening a new shed with 50k invest to employ 5 people fixing lawnmowers. Too much doom mongering people miss the good news stories.

At least that company won't be part owned by Renault.
Bloody Frenchies coming over here stealing our jobs after what we all did for them.

I know You love to revel in any job losses since 2016, particularly if it happens to be in a strong Independence voting constituency, but if You peer beyond the headlines Nissan are stating there will be negligible or no job losses as production of X-trail has not even begun at the Sunderland plant.Halting of X-trail production is primarily due to the lack of desire for diesel.Qashqi production continues apace. Why let the truth spoil your moisture though eh?

In other news, we are to be overrun by plagues of rats in search of iceberg lettuce and the Royal family is to be evacuated. The Luftwaffe couldn’t get them to go but a distinct lack of cherry tomatoes will see them flee.

Nissan 'U-turn' expected on new X-Trail SUV in Sunderland

Sunderland votes to Leave by larger margin than expected

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...brexit-leave-live-latest-remain-a7098776.html

May celebrated this investment with much fanfare back then

As I posted at the time, I suspected that her assurances would be built on Brexiteer wishful thinking.

Its another major blow and for someone who has spent a career in manufacturing it make me feel pretty sad for the people of Sunderland, they were targeted and manipulated probably by dark money...
