Fishermen in Hastings believed leaving the EU meant they'd catch more fish and still be able to sell them all tariff free in Boulogne-sur-Mer as per now. The leader of Hastings Borough Council told them this would not be case post Brexit for example, but they wouldn't listen.
It's beyond belief isn't it ? I think industry organisations were warning of the same thing

Their biggest market is Europe (we eat f-all fish in this country and what we do they don't catch) and they want out.

The trade off, of being able to sell their fish to ANYONE tariff free was EU access to our waters.

No. She's an elected MP and Labour has no power to sack her. It's the same principle as an MP switching parties, the party he/she leaves has no jurisdiction.

If the sentence is a certain length (a year I believe), the MP is compelled to resign

If an MP is incarcerated for over one year they are suspended as MP and by-election called. Because it is under a year they need to issue a recall petition and have 10% of the eligible voters sign.

John Dory, Whiting, Saithe.........There's even stuff they catch and sell on that isn't fit for human consumption - it's used in pig farming in The Netherlands and Denmark. They thought they were getting the sea and everything in it and continued access to EU ports, just like now.

O/T a bit,but when that Fiona Onasanya finally gets locked up,does her pairing partner in Parliament go to jail to keep things even?Could Labour have sacked her, instead of withdrawing the whip?

I think she technically remains as an MP, doesn't she? She has to actually stand down to bring about a by-election. At least from what I can remember.

Although it might be more fun to nominate another MP to go to prison as her "pair". Boris would be fun.

But yet it seems, even with all the disastrous policies implemented by the EU, that they can do no wrong.

Don't think I've ever said the EU is beyond criticism. Which policies in particular do you have in mind?

Italy in recession amid sluggish eurozone

Hopefully, someone will tell the EU that a 'no deal' Brexit would have a considerable negative economic impact for them ...

I think that the EU have always recognised that if Britain decides to blow it's own economic brains out :shootself that being our nearest neighbours, they would get a horrendous dry cleaning bill.

Bet they'll be sorry when they get that bill, won't they. Love to be around to see their faces .............. Oh

I'll think you'll find it's perfectly acceptable for many on here that the EU should try and assist Ireland in detaching NI from the rest of the UK ... all in the name of peace obviously.

So it's the EU's turn to be responsible for this complete clusterf*** today is it ?

Well the Government, the Opposition and the Remainers have all had their turn so I guess it's only fair.

It certainly is nothing whatsoever to do with these three

Definitely not :nono:

If it was wasn't for the Tories losing the election and having to bung the DUP to continue their attempt at an elected dictatorship, think they would have thrown NI under the £350m / week bus by now

There have been many comments on this thread that the EU hold all the cards and that they've offered us a bad deal because they can. Well if they've offered us a bad deal, and that's been rejected by parliament, and that then leads to consequences for the countries still in the EU, then yes the EU does need to take some of the responsibility.

I'm not at all suggesting our politicians aren't responsible for the mess, but the EU are also culpable.

Whether the deal is good, bad or indifferent, what has been negotiated is the deal which would protect the EU's basic principles whilst meeting Theresa May's red lines which were announced prior to the negotiations

I can't see that as a reason to apportion blame for this mess ?

(I suspect that we will have to agree to disagree as again, I really can't be arsed to argue meaningless points)
