Bercow clears the way for the amendment, nice to see a Speaker who stands up for the rights of our sovereign Parliament. The Tories are just so arrogant repeatedly trying to treat Parliament with contempt.
Tories lose again , end of May coming early this year
Ernest predicting the end of May/the Tories since the beginning of time ...
"The Speaker is the chief officer and highest authority of the House of Commons and must remain politically impartial at all times."
According to the (pro Remain) Times, Bercow ignored the advice of the clerks and surprised even those proposing this amendment by allowing a vote.
You can certainly see why so many morally bankrupt types in parliament were prepared to overlook/ignore the numerous complaints about his bullying behaviour just so they had a fellow Remainer in place to help in their attempts to stop Brexit.
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day..
Serious question. Did The Times ever produce an editorial in favour in Remain?
Yes.
The Times may once have been regarded as part of the establishment. If so, those times are past. We will take a maverick view where logic and the evidence support it. We have considered every aspect of the European argument with the seriousness and scepticism it deserves. We respect the arguments of those who would have Britain leave, but on balance we believe Britain would be better off leading a renewed drive for reform within the EU rather than starting afresh outside it.

Ultimately, Bercow is there in a capacity of representing the interests of MPs.
Is he ? My understanding is that the speaker is there to uphold process and procedure - to be neutral so not support MPs or government but to ensure everything is done by the rulebook. He seems to have stretched his role on this occassion.
How many more defeats before its time to leave the building

It's almost as if this government has been playing by the rulebook and haven't been found in contempt by Parliament isn't it. Time they got slapped down.
Regardless of the rights or wrongs of Bercow's decision, what conceivable good would giving May another 21 days do? Regardless of one's position: she is a busted flush.
