None of those things would happen, but the economy would currently be £400 Billion pound better off (and £100B more every year) and maybe, just maybe, we wouldn't have to be desperately cutting stuff in a bid to find £22 Billion.

But he's the man of country over party, of returning the country to economic prosperity, of making difficult decisions even if they are unpopular.

Starting the journey of getting the UK back into the EU is all of those things. It is the single and most obvious thing that could be done to improve the future prospects of the nation. And like most of us on here, he knows that too.

But he won't entertain it primarily for party political reasons.

Considering I rarely leave the county, I want a Sussex passport with the Martlets on to proudly show at the Surrey and Kent borders when I do. I did cross into Surrey at the imaginary A24 tollbooth last Sunday though. No trolls there to meet me, alas. Probably still licking their wounds after the Chelsea defeat.

My fear is that East and West Sussex merging with Brighton and Hove Council will end up with the lowest common denominator, which is B&H. If the rest of Sussex gets saddled with their debts and their “leadership” we are all in trouble. With the crime commissioner tossing her hairnet into the ring to be mayor, God help us.
That said, I’d rejoin the EU in a heartbeat - never have so many people been so intentionally uninformed or duped into voting for something that was in hindsight a horror show.

My Irish passport pre-dates any Brexit vote. It just became infinitely more useful once that shit storm blew onto these shores.

To not even open a debate on it is wilfully stupid from this government. I’ve never understood people who use passports depending on what serves them best. A close friend of mine has 4, it’s like he’s on the run or something. Stick to your country. I totally understand where you are coming from. Personal identity is not something to be changed like clothes. I can't speak for others, but I'll try to explain my own motives for seeking an EU passport.

From birth I was both a British and European citizen. And I was very proud of both these identities. After Brexit, my European identity was taken from me without my consent. Now to redress this, I am seeking Portuguese citizenship (while keeping my British citizenship too). This way I can once again be British & European and proud of both.

Trying to be pragmatic after years of Brexit ranting.

I'm going for option 2 with a view to option 1 longer term.

Option 1 is not viable without both major political forces on board and like 1975 we need 2/3 of the electorate on board to bury the likes of Farage.

We're getting there and Brexiters are dying off. I hate to say this, but right now not enough people care enough.

If we do return, there will be a new series of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet where Brits go to Poland in search of higher wages.

Then there's the EU itself its going to change as crypto-fascists take hold of the political system. Can EU FOM survive in its current form?

It’s been the worse decision we have ever made on a personal level family and friends moved abroad as a direct result of Brexit a small production company closed in Portslade the owner moved production to France, a cousin of mine had a business based in Malta with an office in Bournemouth again as a result of Brexit my cousin closed the uk office and sold his very nice house in the New Forest and now divides his time between a home in Malta and a second home in Switzerland he has two children one went to university in Paris the other in Germany afterwards after Brexit they stayed in those respective countries and obtained citizenship, another friend ran an intruder alarm company in Peacehaven which he sold and moved to Spain and another friend sold up and moved to Spain where they own a small hotel and finally another friend rented his Brighton home took early retirement and has become a permanent tourist he hasn’t been back to the uk for more than a couple of day in the past 8 years he’s currently in Vietnam

Don’t worry, I’ve got my British one for life too.

And consider myself much more of a patriot than the Vote Leave traitors who sold the UK down the river.

They must hate this country.

The thing that always amazed me were the high profile cheerleaders of Brexit, those that got what they wanted but chose to move their personal and business interests abroad, ie Mogg, Lawson, Dyson, Neil, Staines, Ashcroft, Rothermere, Barclay, the list goes on.

Meanwhile ordinary Brits that got duped had their freedoms taken away (and celebrated by the Tories), their options are now limited. I still feel for many of these some of these people, they were just Farage's fodder. That said those who still double down can honestly get f**ked

I love England, although probably Sussex more. Patriotism is so overrated. I was scrambling around after Brexit to see if I could get a European passport and the only one I probably qualify for is.... Nigeria.

The rushed move to a unitary authority and the cancelling of elections in May is staggering.

We are out, Europe is going through massive change politically, Trump and Musk are going to cause chaos in Europe with tariffs, trade wars, and pushing right wing agendas. Serious question from a simpleton, do we really want to be rushing back in right now....

FYI: I did not vote in or out, and do not pay much attention to the inners and outers, to much hate.

Very good question. I voted rejoin but some sort of free trade deal that leaves us free to play both sides could be a good pragmatic short term solution.

Obviously it’s not going well, but even Brexit fans like Rees Mogg said it would be 50-years until we saw any kind of benefits from leaving, so we have to give it time, another 45-years to really be sure...

From an optimistic perspective and assuming all goes as well as it could, we’ve got another 20-years+ of things getting worse than they otherwise would have been, followed by 25-years of things gradually improving from the bottom so that after 50-years we back were we would have been all along, then we might start to see some benefits.
