Is it?

Don’t see it myself.

You’d like some sort of “nobody gets in, nobody gets out” scenario?

Frankly, that sounds Hellish.

A bunch of dumbos voted for us to lose freedom of movement. I found a way to get it back for myself.

I did half my growing up in Belfast so I don’t see it as “untrustworthy”.

Not really sure I’m bothered if you trust me or not though.

Besides which, why cut off my nose to spite my face. That’s what we have Brexiteers for 👍
You’ve invented a lot of conjecture there I’ve not said / thought. Try not to take things too seriously TC. Brexit happened a long time ago now, a majority wanted it etc and I really wouldn’t waste energy revisiting same tired arguments on either side. Life has moved on, we’ve all adjusted and besides, spirits were 3 euros cheaper coming back into UK as a non-EU citizen in duty-free last October so what’s not to like eh?

Nobody was having the “tired arguments” until you came onto a new Brexit thread (clearly avoiding the tired argument 🙄) and declared me untrustworthy because I wish to enjoy freedom of movement.

And no, the point is that life hasn’t moved on and we haven’t adjusted. It’s a mess.

I find people who are happy to see the UK ruined because of pride and a 9 year old referendum quite untrustworthy to be honest 👍

Just live buddy. That's what I say. You don't get long. And if picking up a few passports opens up more windows to the world then the more the merrier.

I love England, although probably Sussex more. Patriotism is so overrated. I was scrambling around after Brexit to see if I could get a European passport and the only one I probably qualify for is.... Nigeria.

Not much use that.
You are of course quite right. But Nigeria eh? How exotic and exciting! That beats my candidacy for a rainy grey damp Eire one, but I won’t hear of it and wouldn’t live it down amongst my wider family as a proud Englishman. So nope, I’ve only eyes for her majesties blue bond bulletin proof right of passage waiver, because a passports for life, not just for slippery Euro turncoats that don’t know their Nelson’s from their Napoleons ! ;)

Don’t worry, I’ve got my British one for life too.

And consider myself much more of a patriot than the Vote Leave traitors who sold the UK down the river.

They must hate this country.

Considering I rarely leave the county, I want a Sussex passport with the Martlets on to proudly show at the Surrey and Kent borders when I do. I did cross into Surrey at the imaginary A24 tollbooth last Sunday though. No trolls there to meet me, alas. Probably still licking their wounds after the Chelsea defeat.

I think you’ve just a more serious personality, and possibly more youth on your side. I realise there’s no use worrying about the big things I can’t change, and a more worthy use of whatever time I’ve left will almost certainly have nothing to do with politics and religion. I wish you good luck however reversing such a seismic event. I will probably be long dead by the time it happens which is why I no longer care about. Same with climate change. Sometimes you just need to adapt and move on, as all the arguments were 10 years ago now.

You’re in my cabinet! I want one of those too. Wonder if such a thing is on Amazon? I bet there’s one for (yawn) Yaaarkahire folk, they’re always banging on about the People Republic For.

What we should do is irrelevant isn't it, as the government has already told us they absolutely won't be doing that.

Putting country before party apparently...

The fact that Starmer has said he won’t do it is absolutely no reason to believe that he won’t.

I don’t expect there is one aspect of the Brexit deal that he would not negotiate away (rightly or wrongly) for whatever he deems to be desirable from the EU

The effects of Brexit have been worse for the UK but to think that the EU will allow us to regain our previous status is naive. There will be massive sacrifices and Starmer is the man to make them. Nothing we end up with will be the equivalent of what we had previously.

I’ve never understood people who use passports depending on what serves them best. A close friend of mine has 4, it’s like he’s on the run or something. Stick to your country. Be proud of who you are. Don’t be an international half and half scarf-er, it’s like you can’t be trusted! English and proud: since 1066 ;)
My god, wait until you find out what people do to avoid paying tax.

And the man of the people, patriotic brexit loving charlatan that helps them.

Yet here you are, not caring about Brexit on another Brexit thread.

🤣

I did adapt. I’m getting my Irish passport. I’m hardly going to give up my freedom of movement if I don’t have to.

See? I adapted 👍

Good thread this.

As a passionate pro-European Labour supporter I do feel a bit disenfranchised at the moment. Hopefully there’s an element of doublespeak in Starmer’s dogged determination to prevent economic growth with his ongoing Red Wall courtship. Just imagine if he suddenly announced we were going back in in some capacity. Of course the obvious traitors would whine like pussies but would they whine quite so much once the economy started growing again? I’d dearly love to find out.

I’d love to hear what the eight people who believe we need a “harder Brexit” think that means. :lolol:

Perhaps they want us to be towed up America’s backside so we can lick it from the white cliffs of Dover?

Brighton factually.....
We are out, Europe is going through massive change politically, Trump and Musk are going to cause chaos in Europe with tariffs, trade wars, and pushing right wing agendas. Serious question from a simpleton, do we really want to be rushing back in right now....

FYI: I did not vote in or out, and do not pay much attention to the inners and outers, to much hate.

I was remain. I’d rejoin in a heartbeat. I just don’t see it happening, so it’s not a focus of attention for me or an issue I take seriously. We’ve made our bed. However, I can see us trying to rejoin the Customs Union and I feel this is a more realistic target.

Good question/point. Europe is being squeezed, it also has some structural issues eg lack of economic nimbleness that means its gdp has kind of flat lined for quite a while now relative to the US which (ignoring the anti Biden lies) has been steaming ahead.

Imho the UK leaving the block has exacerbated this, the EU suffers too.

The brilliant and lovely Anna Holligan and Katya Adler explained many times that Germany/Netherlands/Sweden/Denmark/Finland hugely respected our business acumen and way of doing business. A counter balance to the rigid French ‘our way or the highway.

Better together. The EU and UK suffer.

They believe that the reason that Brexit has been such a shitshow is that we didn't Brexit hard enough

Someone like June Mummery (the fish woman) would be a good example of this line of thinking.

I’d like to go back to the EU, as there were zero problems before, life was so easy and inexpensive and still is in mainland Europe. It’s only here that these problems exist. Plus, everyone knows Brexit caused the pandemic, the death of the monarch and wars in both Ukraine and the Middle East. Oh, and climate change. Nearly forgot that too. So why the politicians are still fanning about and haven’t returned us to the EU I really don’t know, given all these problems will be reversed: am looking forward to seeing Liz back on the throne the most.

Ah bless, you obviously still don't understand (I feel like I did telling my kids the Easter Bunny didn't exist )

None of those things would happen, but the economy would currently be £400 Billion pound better off (and £100B more every year) and maybe, just maybe, we wouldn't have to be desperately cutting stuff in a bid to find £22 Billion.

PS You forgot to vote.

Actually Starmer's precise words were:

"This is my project – a Britain once more in the service of working people. Country first, party second."

If you refuse to pursue the one thing that will improve the fortunes of this nation, then you are absolutely not putting the country first.

I agree completely with yourself and the 93% of NSCers who think that he should start the negotiations for re-joining and the sooner the better. But after seeing the days of vitriolic front page headlines he got for going to an Arsenal match, could you imagine what would happen if he did
