bit surprised by comments on here, dont get me wrong im no fan of pompey but i dont want to see any club go out of business......were all football fans at the end of the day and its pretty much out of our hands how our clubs are run whether it be well or ruined by people who dont give a shit....as was the case for us only a few years ago......im sure if you go back to the eighties when our decline began we were paying wages we couldnt really afford which is why we ended up in so much debt and then ended up with wankers who didnt care about the club...only lining their own pockets....it was out of our control. Is it that different to Pompey. When Pompey were doing well in the Prem and cup the fans were not aware of the financial problems and how it was being run....do you expect them not to go to wembley to watch their team or not enjoy seasons in the prem?????
Its always the fans that suffer.....some people on here have short memories, did Fans UTD mean nothing to some people??????

WE started Fans United 13 years ago. US, you and me, through the first incarnation of THIS board.

How the f*** have we gone from that to this thread of pathetic, "Hope they go bust", "dancing on their grave", "laughing in the face of their fans" posts?

THIS. Unbelievable attitudes from many on here. Totally pissing all over the concept of Fans United which it could be argued saved this club.

I wish Pompey stay in business but are forced to send back Kitson and Lawrence and in January sell/free transfer the majority of the rest of their team who are also being paid to much. Then they can play the youth team for the remainder of the season, perhaps get relegated (perhaps not!) and build a sustainable club from there.

I would like to think that if you offered this option to any real Portsmouth fan as opposed to their club being liquidated they would bite your hand off.

Am I wrong? Would the average Pompey fan be happy with this? If not is that why we are forgetting Fans United??

The last two posts are spot on.Some sense at last after all it's not the fans fault. We would be milking the success they had recently.
Threads like this are totally embarrassing which i avoid.
I hope the Pompey fans pull through this.

Mine isn't really a rational decision though. I simply cannot describe how much I hate that club and their hideous fans. Of course, this is made worse by the way they screwed local businesses and paid their players. Frankly, the signing of two players on 20k a week sickens me - you don't see many Pompey fans complaining about this despite the knowledge of what's happened and that the club clearly can't afford it.

If some Pompey fans went out and protested about the signing of these players and the obvious way their club is being run insolvent, I'm sure many people might think differently. But of course they're not. They just whinge about how unfair it all is for them.

If they were to go bust how would relegation from the championship and promotion from league 1 work?

Agree with this although I would make them sell/free players now.

No doubt there would only be two relegations from the Prem. However I am sceptical that Pompey would go out of business. On the face of it if they did it might send a message to a lot of clubs but somehow I doubt it. Worth noting that two clubs that went bust, Accrington and Aldershot, are now both back in the league.

Is it the same Newport County who went bust knocking on the league door?

Yes it is and you could also say the same for AFC Wimbledon. I have no strong feelings about Portsmouth fans as every club has it's share of muppets. Portsmouth have lived above their means but so have a lot of clubs, Brighton being just one of them.

Agree with this although I would make them sell/free players now.

As I understand it they would need to transfer players to other clubs (be it on a free or for a fee.) They can't just release them as they would have to pay the remainder of their expensive contracts.

This would mean they have to wait until the January transfer window opens.

A fax should be sent to every league team saying that if any other league club wants to pick up any of the current player's contracts in January than they are ALL available. (If they can get a fee than fair play).

Pompey to be taken over within the next week.

Does anyone really believe there is even a remote possibility that they will fold?

I agree with this. I don't want to see any club go out of business but Portsmouth have been taking the piss for years. They went into administration, got zero punishment for that ( a points deduction when they were already relegated), screwed over their creditors and then started paying for players they couldn't afford once again.

I want them to survive but on a realistic footing. Send them into liquidation and get rid of all their expensive players. Reform by stuff the team with cheap cast-offs and youth players, deduct 27 points and leave them to it. There'll be a relegation or two, but the club will survive and, we hope, will have learned a lesson. And just in case, let the FL impose a 40-point deduction on them, suspended for 10 years, to give them something to think about if they fancy over-spending again.

Not going to happen. All this from an article released on the club website. It's a tactic to put pressure on Alexandre Gaydamak.

This wrankles though: ""Unfortunately, despite the new owners fulfilling all the requirements of the Football League and the creditors, and agreeing and signing up to the required terms of the purchase of the club, at the eleventh hour the goalposts have been moved by Mr Gaydamak and this has now made the deal impossible to complete,” the statement read."

Like repaying their money? So not quite ALL the requirements of the creditors. Don't want Portsmouth to go bust but would be happy to see them pay for their excess and have to work their way back up the leagues on a legitimate basis.

Didn't FANS UNITED also show how fans should be aware of crooked and stupid owners.................and to also show how to demonstrate against profligate spending that would/could lead to the demise of their clubs...?

Did FANS UNITED do nothing to expose the fact that bad 'management' would lead to ruination of their club, if the fans stood idly by....?

If Portsmouth football supporters are so stupid on masse, that they didn't see this coming....(and let's be honest, they've done f*** all about it other than cheer from the rafters about Kitson and co), it's hard to feel any sympathy for them whatsoever.

FANS UNITED, wasn't just for Brighton............it was for ALL football club supporters to show solidarity against crooked owners. Portsmouth football fans have chosen to ignore and alienate themselves against this concept

I don't think it is good for football in general for a professional club to go out of business so anyone laughing about it is an idiot. funny how a few people have quoted the ethic of fans united but still think a club possibly dying will not have an impact on football as a whole, IT WILL. Rivalry is one thing, being bitter and nasty and not seeing the whole picture is quite another. Brighton fans over a certain age all have stories of games against Palace and Pompey in particular one half of that could now be gone.........Some people need to take a long hard look.

I agree, it's just another bit of wolf crying.

If there was any chance of Portsmouth FC being insolvent and the administrators looking to shut them down imminently, then the Football League would postpone their match at Hull this afternoon. As far as I am aware they haven't

I think this is merely a ploy to move the club along and out of administration.
