The end of an era.
Great move for Danny, in the present climate it was as much money as we could possibly have got so DK's done well there.
I'm annoyed at the club letting us stew for the past few days, and if the club captain did officially handed in a transfer request on Wednesday I would have liked official confirmation and response on the club website, not "he's sitting out Friday while he gets his head together" bollocks.
My heart tells me that we can still stay up but my head tells me we're f***ed.

Danny will always be a hero, and WILL be missed, but we have other options at Centre Back, and Guy Butters will look after the youngsters. Another £250k towards survival - that makes over £750k in a couple of weeks.

I'm going to look on the bright side here. Cullip is a massive loss but to get at least £250k for him is good business. (Whatever happened to the "He won't pass a medical" argument?). I was convinced he would only ever leave on a free unless Adams came in for him - bit of a risk by Warnock if he does have dodgy knees.
Strangely, and I will probably be in a very large minority here, I am actually happy seeing players go for money. Not sure why I let my head rule my heart in this matter but I think all the talk recently has convinced me to think long term rather than panic short term. If the club's future can be secured by selling players then I'm all for it. We are not losing players for free (at the moment anyway). No matter what the naysayers say, all eggs should be in the Falmer basket.
Again, I am in a minority here but relegation would not be the end of the world for me. As much as I enjoy going to West Ham and the like, if it is threatening the club financially then I'd rather watch Chesterfield and Brentford for a couple of years. Don't forget that the new TV deal means all League clubs get the same share of the money, regardless of division. With a ground that is virtually at capacity every week regardless of division, this means that the income for the club is roughly the same as last year. But you can guarantee that there were clauses in players contracts that bumped up wages with promotion. Money had to be paid for Leon and Big Chris (IIRC) for promotion. After firework expenses, we didn't get much. Without the Falmer costs, we could just survive at Withdean in League 1. We are now paying Championship costs with Falmer costs as well. We are not punching above our weight, we are David playing Goliath.
Much as I think he is our best player, I hope Knight is next to go. There is no point paying him £4k a week to warm the bench. If McGhee doesn't rate him, we may as well cash in. There is no point endlessly whinging on here that he isn't playing. (I do myself when I hear the team news, btw) At the end of the day, McGhee is the man who makes the decisions. Let him bring in his own players and give him a chance to keep us up. It was far from certain that we would have stayed up with Cullip & Currie. Remember the displays against Crewe, Derby and the like? All of our wins have been like a League 1 team beating a Championship team in the cup. We have yet to win a game convincingly. The sheer spirit and guts of the team may have kept on scraping 3 points here and there. Or we may have run out of luck. Who knows?
McGhee will now hopefully get the chance to bring in the type of players he wants. Not the players he wants probably as we won't be able to afford most of the but at least the style of player he wants. If he is as good a manager as we think he is, that could well be enough and we will have another year in the Championship with significantly reduced debts. If it isn't enough then we will be back in the division that we, realistically and rose spectacles off, belong at the moment. At least £500k better off, debt wise.
Good luck Danny and many thaks for all you have done. No player could have been more committed and I for one fully understand your reasons for going. And with Warnock saying nice things about us and extra money on offer, Sheff U may well become my second team for the season.

Like many others I'm gutted.
Danny is a true hero and an Albion legend. I'll never forget the goal against Cheaterfield to win the title, I'll never forget the way that he always came over to applaud the fans at the end of games.
I wish him all the best although I hope he slips arse over tit on the 15th January.

And as for the extra £150K if they get promoted, well I just don't see that happening, they are always the bridesmaid.

You're living in dreamland, Phil. £250,000 was an incredibly generous price for Currie, and Cullip certainly isn't worth £500,000 in today's market by any stretch of the imagination.

Thanks Danny, but I think you're best years we behind you. IMO, it's a good deal for the club, and we're not short of defensive cover.

The Currie deal was good for us £250k seemed somewhat generous from Ipswich.
As for Cullip, six months left on his contract, not proven at the highest level, alleged dodgy knee, it's the best we could have got.

I appreciate your comments chaps, but the fact is Sheffield United know we are desparate, they knew they could get him for a bargain, the extra £150K offered proves they could have paid more for him, I'm just dissapointed in the fact that we are so desparate that I feel we are being taken advantage of.
Earnshaw went for a decent amount of money, to a struggling Premiership club, and if Danny is part of Sheffields promotion success then isn't he worth a bit more than just an extra £150K

Warnock has 750k to spend on players to push United towards the Premiership. Do you think he's going to blow the majority of that on a guy who's only spent 1 and half seasons at this level. I love the fella but to a neutral observer he's a central defender who's spent nearly his entire career in the bottom 2 divisions. The transfer market has collapsed and i'm suprised that we're getting decent money for guys who's contracts are due to run out in 6 months time.

I actually think this could be good business. Its about the only position in the team we have some real talent. Butters is fantastic and he can lead the defensive line, Hinshlewood and Virgo are fantastic talents.
Sad to see a legend go, but I would've taken the money to be honest, given our situation etc...
