I think thats a fair amount for him considering that:

We ARE desperate for money (players always go cheaper when clubs need the cash)
He is out of contract in the summer (would you rather he went for nothing)
Not completely proven at this level (even though we know he is class)

Again, not a bad bit of business as he only cost £50k and as he was the highest paid player at the club we will have cut a large chunk off the wage bill too.

Still sad to see him go though

Thanks Danny, good luck getting to the Premiership!

Earnie is a potentially top-class striker with bags of pace who has already scored plenty of goals at international level. He had three years left on his Cardiff contract and is in the prime of his footballing life.

Cullip has spent most of his career in the lower divisions, he lacks pace and he isn't even a proven defender at Championship level yet if the truth be told. He is no spring chicken, he has just six months left on his contract and he allegedly has a dodgy knee.

The two cases are totally incomparable, and looking at this deal from an outsider's perspective I'd say £250,000 is a perfectly fair price. Put it this way, I certainly wouldn't be doing cartwheels and shouting 'bargain' if Cardiff had signed Cullip for £250,000.

I think you're spot on there. I think the truth of it is Ipswich overpaid for Currie, rather than the Blades undervaluing Cullip.

So....he's gone-as players nearly always do and I think we've done well in the deal.

DC has been fantastic for us since he was bought to the club but it's time for him to move on. We don't have to worry too much-there are capable replacements in central defence, Butters has the experience to help younger players and thankfully, Charlie Oatway is still around. Don't laugh-Charlie is SO important to this football club. More so than DC in my opinion.

Thanks Danny-see you in January.

Agree with everything there. If we go down, then so be it. f we go out of business, different matter.

Thanks Danny, but I think you're best years we behind you. IMO, it's a good deal for the club, and we're not short of defensive cover.
What they said. The depressingly large 'Head in the Sand' brigade will obviously disagree, but it's not just the money, like Currie he wanted to go.

Thanks for everything DC, but all things come to an end.

I have to say as much as I am gutted and my initial reaction was we were ripped off. Considering all the factors, 500k for both Cullip and Currie is good business, Currie was worth less than we got for him and Cullip more but not by much either way.

Still totally gutted, the mans an albion legend.

BHAlba - the Scottish Seagulls - are current sponsors of Danny McCullip (Home kit)....

Will we be getting a red and white striped shirt to raffle at the end of the season, now? :nono:  :censored:

But good luck to DC, and stay away from those knife weilding Bladesters. See you on January 15th at Brammel Lane.

There's only one ADAM McVIRGO!!!!! :clap2: :clap2:

Thanks Dan for the lst 5 years.

Can I say I think you have made a big error Dan Sheffield United are sh1t.

See you on 15 January when Mcgammon will hit a hat trick past you and that annoying baldy goalkeeper Paddy Kenny. Also I think there will be some explosive post mortems between you and Kenny when you concede

I am gutted to. I understand we need the money blah blah but I just think we are getting desperate now. I also understand the need for the cash because of Falmer however does anyone really think that if we dropped a league we are going to be in a better position? On the one had yes but if we cant fill withdean now then how are we going to fill it in league one with no decent players.

I may come around a bit later when I have read some informative posts but at the moment it just depresses me.

Ever so often I think back to the Chesterfield game and Danny's header ripping the net cords, what a sound, what a goal.

I want forget that for many years.

To be honest we thought we would lose him years ago and I can't recall a higher figure being offered to him in the past!

He wanted to go, he is going to a club which suits his style, Warnock likes us and who knows who or what may also come our way from Sheffield.

I'm delighted. First because we NEED the money and it's been a great bit of negotiation. Secondly while I acknowledge that Danny has been instrumental in the Championship wins and promotions, I truly believe that his best years for US are behind him. The lack of stadium, decent facilities etc have always been an issue for him and it's to his credit that he's put up with them and us for so long.

I hope that Sheff Utd will give him a new challenge and that he'll rise to it.

The only down side is that we now want Sheff Utd to get promoted, so Jan 15th will be a bit of a strange game...

Anyway thanks Danny and all the best.

Allegedly from a source at the forty notes fund Cullip and Knight were earning £9000 a week. (the forty notes fund saw player contracts before handing over money so they knew where it was being spent.) so we can assume that dick knights claim that danny was offered an improved deal may have seen him be the first 5 figure salary at the club. therefore 250k-whilst minimal- represents double value for money with the extra pressure of wages released.
that having been said it is a sad day made even sadder because we didnt get to say goodbye to one of the best players iv'e ever witnessed at this club.

I can understand Danny going, wanting to play at a decent ground, in front of 20,000 fans etc, etc, but when I stood next to him on the pitch at Grimsby and he was in tears, I thought that maybe he would always want to stay and be a Brighton player and fight the good fight. But one thing is for sure, players come and go - that's football, we the fans, will always be here.

I wish him all the best, there is only one Danny Cullip.
