Total staff costs for the club, including directors' renumeration for the 2014/15 season was £20.614.074 according to my interpretation of the accounts. This covered a monthly average of 257 employees including 61 players (532 part time employees were employed for match days)
And we have fans willing the club to spend around £2m a season (or around 10% of our total wages spend) on a 33 year old striker who hasn't played regular football for a good few years now, will offer no resale value, and is unlikely to play in the final year of his contract (if we have him on a 2 year deal) if we are promoted to the PL at he end of season 1. (or possibly if unable to stay fit into season 2)
Add to that that Murray wasn't that popular when he was with us previously (deemed lazy, didn't clap the fans, wanted to move back up north, etc) and ask yourself why he would want to put the effort in now?
There is far better value out there to be had and hopefully, given our near miss this season, we are able to complete those transfers because we are seen as a good move rather than relegation battlers like last season (when going for the likes of Jonathan Calleri)
