Embarrassing isn't it? I don't know a single person who voted for him. I blame the suburbs. Sutton, Bexley, Barnet - not really 'London' are they? If you just took the votes for what actually constitutes London, Ken would have won.

I can see why, as a Tory, you're pleased with the win, but are you honestly happy that Boris Johnson is the Mayor?

As Churchill Insurance said, Oh yes

Thing is Beachy, Boris will succesful if he is seen to working independently of the Tories.

Londoners want someone working for them, not ANY national party or Government.

That's why Ken (as a Labour man) was able to win even with an unpopular Labour Government last time.

The dislike for the current Government was too intense this time for Ken to buck the trend, even though the result was much closer than the national results.

Worst thing Boris can do now, is aline himself closely to Cameron. Londoners won't like to think someone else is pulling the strings.

He bloody knows that too. That was very clear in his speech.

It's going to be interesting how he behaves since he's been very carefully controlled by the national party to win this election.

Well congratulations everyone.
Welcome to the wonderful world of X Factor politics.
I hope you enjoy your youth clubs being shut down, your football pitches being sold off and good luck getting to work when the tube's on strike cos the new bosses have spent the pension fund, and your children are wheezing cos the traffics at even more of a stand still outside your house cos the congestion charge's been scraped.
And when you cant get tickets to the Olympics cos the corporate seats out number the public seats comfort yourself with the knowledge that at least the marathon runners can hitch a ride on a 50 year old belching bus, as they try to escape the disenfranchised ethnic minorities rioting on the streets cos the community center's lost its funding and the police have arrested 'the kids' because wearing a hoodie now breaks Boris's bylaw 27
Well done everybody, I hope you feel proud of you capital. Now back to the tele, time for 'Have I got News For YOu'
That Boris he's a bit of a laugh, aint he ?

Whew..feel better now thats off your chest..?! You've made the rest of us suicidal....

I would probably vote for a Conversative Mayor if I thought they were capable of doing the job.

I've just got a horrible feeling that the Conservatives have quite cynically planted a celebrity Mayor with no personal political agenda or concrete ideas for London.

What a shame.

Now this is funny.

Although on the serious side, I think New Labour have well & truly got the message.
All we need is the Democrats to win in the U.S now.

Who'd have ever thought that we'd be mentioning Tories & Democrats together. How times change.

Give it six months and London will have come to a grinding halt when dopy Boris
has pissed off every essential service worker in the city, there will be rubbish on the streets five foot high, no buses no trains no tubes no nurses because they will be all out on strike.

Funny really. This board was saying exactly the same thing about when Brighton kicked Labour out.

Nasty suburban provincial, working and middle classes. Probably London born and bred. How dare they vote Tory.

Actually your admission that you don't know anyone who voted Tory shows you as the cocooned out-of-touch person that you really are. Over a MILLION people voted for him. Open your eyes get out into the real world and you'll easily find one or two.

He may give the impression of being a buffoon likely to put his foot in it but Boris will have to go some way to make as big a gaffe as Red Ken's likening of a Jewish reporter to a concentration camp guard.

Glad to see the back of the left wing bigot.

Actually, Buzzer nor do I. But like many things I live in an inner city area, very staunch Labour/ socialist area, I work closely with the public sector, our children go to local schoools, community nursery.

Our lifestyle obviously developes close links to "Labour" "green" supporters and not the tories of the subhurbs.

But to function properly, London is a large city to we need a Mayor representing all. Johnson speech could not have been better for an incoming Mayor!
