So football goes ahead. Construction likely to continue- 3 million people that is.
They simply won't be able to get up to 1.5/2 million vaccines a week. There isn't the infrastructure for that. The first vaccine was given on what, the 8th of December was it? So they've done 1 million in just shy of a month- TWENTY FIVE MILLION people are on the vulnerable list. 31 million are regarded as priority. Even the initial core group- NHS workers, care homes etc is 6 million. They hope to have 1000 Oxford Vac stations set up by the end of the week- not hard to see the scale of the problem.
Honestly think we need to get real. We need a proper lock down. Even if it is just for 3 or 4 weeks it needs to be a total lockdown. Nobody leaves home. None of this Wilkinsons, B&M Bargains being opened nonsense.
Using the vaccine as some kind of carrot is unfair and unhelpful. We are all fully aware vaccines are being rolled out, we are fully aware what that means, but that shouldn't be the primary focus right now. It should be about absolutely minimising transmission.

Out of interest, who do you blame for this?

Many are to blame but in all honesty the same pattern of infections is occurring in nearly all western countries. I think the government have made bad decisions but I think no matter what was done unless we’d locked down for the entirety of winter, the virus would have spiked massively between January and March.

Understand the lockdown, as numbers are increasing to an uncomfortable level, but at the same time I won’t comply with another year of this if that were to happen, I think there would be a revolution across Europe.

As someone who is deemed clinically vulnerable in their 30’s (received shielding letters from day 1) did I hear right that I will be vaccinated before mid February? Reading the priority list previously I thought I was behind the 60 plus category?

Perfectly happy with all of this. Lockdown much needed. Vaccine signalling the beginning of the end. A couple of months of home working, running and time with the kids while we get it sorted.

As much as I am not a Boris fan in general, no one could have predicted the precise mutation in the virus until it happened and now it has the right action has been taken.

No one was forced to socialise at Christmas.

The logistics behind the Pfizer vaccine mean the amount we’ve vaccinated so far is actually remarkable, the Oxford vaccine can be given and scaled up MUCH more readily as it only needs to be stored in normal fridges.

Advocating nobody being allowed to leave their home is utter madness.

How is elite sport continuing madness, out of interest?

I don’t see an argument for stopping sport at elite level myself, it’s a controlled environment with football club bubbles and precautions there is no reason to stop sports.

There are no 'football club' bubbles; players come in, train, go home. As do many, many other people who hep to run the raining complexes. On match days hundreds of people are required to stage each game. They are not being tested twice a week. Are people from SKY travelling to Villa Park REALLY undertaking essential travel - in the current context? Or the groundstaff, stewards, emergency staff, caterers, coach drivers, hotel staff? How is that really essential?

However my main reason for suspending PL would be that all the while every game is broadcast on BT or SKY there will be loads of non-essential household mixing as people go to the homes of others to watch the games.

I want to see football as much as anyone else but I also want to see the end of this virus. At the moment it just seems people are saying, "yeah, would love to get back to normal - oh, but you can't stop the footie for a couple of months, We need that, FFS."

Well, carry on but don't expect this thing to fizzle out anytime soon all the while people are getting together to watch the games and spreading the virus.

Every country across Europe is carrying on with elite level football, Scotland announced the same today.

This. Should be easier for elite players to be isolated into work bubbles with full lockdown and much needed entertainment for those stuck at home to keep them indoors. Right decision for me.

I'm 60 but with no ( obvious) health problems and I'm slated for my jab about September !

Sam Allardyce made a good point that there’s numerous older people involved in elite football who are at risk. Is it fair they are exposed? I’m starting to think it should be called off until the virus is under control.

Sorry mate, disagree. Watching outside your household or bubble is illegal but it wasn't compulsory in Tier 2 and was also illegal in Tier 4.

Keep the sport. It was the biggest miss for me in lockdown 1.

I was wondering this. All I can think of is that the Government considering it feasible to home school a 5+ year old and juggle working from home, but not possible to look after a baby / toddler and juggle working from home. As my child is 13 months I have no idea if juggling home schooling and a job is in any way feasible, but I do know that the latter is not possible.
