Booing at the final whistle yesterday

Just been speaking to someone that has a lot of insider knowledge of Pompey (he was the one that dropped the Redknapp-for-manager info before it became public), and apparently the guy was looking at two South Coast clubs, both of which have planning permission for a new ground. What took him to Portsmouth is their plan to rotate the ground 90 degrees and develop housing around it (a £90M+ development) - just like Chelsea Village. The other South Coast club that got a mention was us, but he was put off because of the Falmer challenge (whether or not it comes to anything) and the recent drop down the division. If Pompey get relegated, the cash injection would take them up again. If we got relegated, then we would take longer to stabilise, it would be harder to bring in big players at that level, and the return on investment would be slower. It was felt that Brighton could have potentially a massive fan base (better transport links than Portsmouth peninsula), but as Portsmouth is the 58th fastest growing city in the UK, the injection of other investors' cash was a factor. Putting money into an area which is already on the up, economically, gives him a better chance of making more cash - which, after all, is what he is there for.

Oh well.

El Presidente just to show that it was suggested by Hampshire Seagull and not me who suggested a Russian wa interested in buying the club.[

El Pres thanks for the background lesson, I thought we were just discussing the pro's & con's of the performance, whether people thought booing was acceptable or otherwise and could we do better given our short comings.

Fair enough mate, but surely our performance is a consequence of our recent history. In answer to your points

1.The performance was not awful compared to some of the performances seen this season, we had the majority of possession but lacked creativity in the final third.

2. I did not boo yesterday, IMO the players tried hard but looked inert up front. It's also VERY difficult to boo with my tongue up the club's arse

3. Shortcomings are significant, by rights we should be a division lower than where we are. Only one point below our target at start of season of finishing fourth from bottom

We sweat our guts out for our wages, have bills to pay, mortgage etc, while they kick a bag of wind around and have an easy life. I think we are entitled to voice our f***ing opinions when and how we like. I'd like them to get up at 5am every morning and return home at 7pm 5 days a week for a f***ing pittance.

I'll boo and shout when ever I feel they deserve it if I've paid money I can ill afford at the best of times.

Last time I looked Tank sweats buckets on daily basis to pay our bills and mortgage!!! :jester:

You are more than entitled to boo, shout, whatever, if you think they deserve it, and by doing so they obviously get the hint you aint best pleased, but do honestly think that by booing them off the pitch its going to make them play any better next time round?

No! But it made me feel better that I had made my feelings on their performance known. What did they expect a standing ovation?!

And as for playing better next time around, surely if they are 'professional' footballers it is their duty to attempt to do just that.

If you want to make money, the one thing that you do not do is put it into a football club. Abramovic has lost about £300m in Chelsea, as the money goes straight out the door in the form of wages. This will also be the case in the bloke putting money into Pompey

The guy in front of me stated half way through the second half that he'd paid his money and was entitled to criticise the players. Fair enough, but in most (if not all) walks of life, criticism is best delivered POSITIVELY. Personally I thought we (as a crowd) let the players down pretty badly yesterday (not for the first time). We all know that creating an atmosphere at Withdean is difficult. But so is playing there. If the players just gave up (as we seem to have done), then we'd give them a right bl00dy rocket. It's about time we examined our consciences and decided whether we want to help the team or hinder them. At the moment, the Withdean morgue is hardly likely to motivate the players, at a time when they need it most. Last season, when things got dodgy towards the end, we had the "Let's make some noise" campaign. We need to start that again, and bl00dy quick - only better this time. I don't expect there will be too much problem creating an atmosphere for the Leeds game, but our next Saturday home match is vs Leicester, and is likely to be the ultimate six-pointer. Luckily we have a month to prepare our tonsils for that one, but I think we need to start that preparation very soon.

There couldn't have been many people booing as I didn't hear a thing.

I started the first thread about this subject and completley agree with Butterballs!!! It was absolutley disguisting of the fans, many of whom were silent throughout the game themselfs.

Yesterday saw some very good performances and a good all round team effort, with a decent left back there would of been no goal and with a half decent goal scorer we would of had a couple.

If anyone deserves booing it's the fans who fail to produce any atmosphere week in week out.

So booooooooooooooooooo yourselfs.

I thought we were paying to be entertained which with the exception of a couple of inspired performances the team have dismally failed to do this season. It's a two way street surely?

They put 'sustained' effort into their performances and it might inspire us to get behind them vociferously. Withdean is hardly condusive to a noise generating arena though!

If you want to be entertained try the circus!! And Withdean does work well in a natural dip, the singing section show that every week as do many away fans!! Palace for an example, who created a great atmosphere!

GET BEHIND THE LADS!!!!
