For bringing the Premier League into disrepute after making 10 changes last night.

Wolves were rightly made an example of last season by being fined after making 10 changes at Man Utd, what should Blackpools punishment be??

???

Depends on why he did it I think. McCarthy pretty much admitted he was throwing the match, i.e. cheating. He was rightly punished for attempting to gain an unfair advantage over other relegation battlers.

Immediate relegation to Blue Square North.

It's the only possible punishment for bringing our glorious elite division into disrepute and losing to a last minute goal.

Nice bit of fishing,btw.

Its a squad game I suppose. But much like Gus did when he threw the game at Northampton, I just wish they'd state in advance if they're going to play the ressies. Then at least fans can make an informed decision on whether its worthwhile spending their hard-earned to travel and and watch a scratch team almost certainly get turned over.

When Gus leaves (in many, many years time obviously) can we have Holloway please Mr Bloom.

The bloke is a legend, and Blackpool is exactly the model I'd love our club to follow.

Same as the Wolves farce last season, a manager should be able to pick who he wants to

Why the hell should they be fined or docked points? I'm not a big fan of Holloway or McCarthy but all they did was put out what they thought was the right team for the game - they are the managers, not some stuffed shirt at the FA. How come it's OK for the 'big' clubs to rotate their squads but not for the 'smaller' clubs? Even the managers of the teams that aren't going for the top honours have a squad of players they need to keep fresh and happy. If the FA want to stop the playing os so-called weakened teams then they need to do away with the stupidity that is the transfer window. If clubs know they can get in another player if their squad starts to get thin because of injuries/suspensions, etc then they won't build such big squads in the first place.

Because the rules state you have to be "competitive". How you judge that I don't know. But if Man United rest a few players for a game against Wolves, they are still definitely being competitive because they will probably still get a result, whereas McCarthy cheated by pretty much admitting he threw the game against Man Utd last year to get him an unfair advantage in the next game. Totally different situation.

I agree that you should be able to pick who you want, but if you make it quite clear that you threw a game, that IS cheating.

Wow. That's a remarkably ill-informed post. We're not talking about squad rotation here, we're talking about effectively throwing a game. There's a massive difference between Alex Ferguson bringing in Smalling and Park for Rio & Giggs, and Holloway changing 10 players out of 11. Blackpool's starting lineup yesterday had six players who had never played in the Premiership before, and the entire 11 had made a total of 14 starts between them.

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of this (and it's definitely wrong), the FA have made a precedent by charging Wolves, and they must do the same to Blackpool.

at least Blackpool nearly got something from the game and actually tried to win it, unlike us at Northampton

Be massive double standards if they don't.

Don't agree with it though, surely it's up to the manager who he picks and surely that is the whole point of having a squad of players.

Yet again though, surely if it's clear that the manager has cheated and thrown a game, that should be punished, no?

I agree with the principal that a manager should be able to pick whatever team he wants from his 25 man squad.

But do you think its setting a dangerous precedent to allow managers to effectively write-off certain games in order to prepare for what they perceive to be a more important "winnable" game later that week ? If thats left unchecked, it does give the bigger clubs an easier ride against the smaller teams, and affects the integrity of the competition.

Are we going to get to the stage whereby the Blackpools and Wolves of this world basically have two teams - their "best" one they keep fresh to play against who they look on as their relegation rivals, and their scratch one they play against the big boys because the manager writes off their chances of winning the game ?

Looks like we're getting there.

Does UEFA, the press or you complain when a load of Arsenal or Man Utd youngsters play in the last couple of games in the group stages?

Of all the sorting of "cheating" that goes in on in football the small teams in the premiership changing their team has never really bothered me

I fail to see how nearly getting a draw and only losing 3-2 in the dying minutes is "throwing" the game ???
