The fact that the Romans used black legionairres at Hadrians wall (wasn't one ruler on Roman Britain actually from Carthage) to occupy this country hardly represents an evolutionary step in this country's national identity. The Roman Empire was huge and covered much of Europe; with black legionairres likely to be elsewhere does that mean the identity of Europe is black?

Its like telling someone from the Channel Islands that their identity is actually German.

You are way off the mark mate no one has said that at all.

Just saying that there were Black Romans and even black Roman rulers

Lots of Germans in the Channel Islands though.

If he was black then he was not a true Roman, anyone who was not Roman was called a barbarian, racists fuckers them Romans.

They weren't racist against Blacks though - they used all nations and put leaders from those nations to run the armies there.

Divide and conquer

I really have no problem with putting a cap on Immigration. In Australia they have stringent checks on who can migrate here, they need certian types of professions and trades and more of those people are let in. Maybe the UK should do that.

The BNP is about so much more than that and after reading their website I cannot beleive that their are people giving these people the time of day let alond votes and support.

If it is an indication of what is happening in Britian then it is very sad that the BNP have become a legitimate political party. The Britian I remember was far more tollerant than this.

No I think the fact that he was black makes him black.

Nick will never shake your hand again now. And he will probably send you back:lolol:
I have seen plenty of Librarians?Libians whatever you want to call them, and the darkest skin colouration amongst them was closer to a turkish/mediterranean pigment. Are we now to assume that anybody who is not scandinavian white is black?Where does that leave the South East Asians?(no,not the ones from Hastings you dolt):p

I think post 27 makes that inference...........maybe I am wrong.

I don't disagree that there were blacks in Roman Britain. The fact is that invasion and occupation whether by the Romans or Normans was not some kind of early form of immigration and multiculturalism. Those who lived in this country at this time were subjugated and their culture largely eradicated. Nothing to celebrate as we are oft reminded with the British empire.

One thing that invaders to any country tend to do is to build stuff to make sure the natives know exactly who's in charge; Hadrians Wall and Norman Motte and Bailey Castles are good examples of this in Britain. We may feel affectionate towards them 1000 years later, the locals around when they were built would have been less happy, probably because they were used as slave labour to build them with stones from their own homes.

Immigrants on the other hand have not tended to leave such a lasting impression, the Heugenots (who were Protestant) went to local churches (like in the East End) and the Jewish immigrants to London in the early 20th Century then converted churches to synagogues.

Just a view.

Er....... we are all immigrants in some way, not unless you believe Jesus put you here like Griffin does.

Mind you since the great fire most of the British architecture was ripped off from the Romans and greeks anyway. It was probably more British before that.

Before the Romans we didn't have that much of a culture in any case. Most of the stuff in England at the time was the same as stuff elsewhere. even Stonehenge is seen in similar things across the world.

even the tribes before the Romans had foreign sounding names and traditions.

Its only that Cov doesn't want to believe there were any blacks in Britain before 1950::rolleyes:

Its what it implies. Or do you specialise in pointless posts?

Heres a chance to proove me wrong and explain the point of your comment?

The point was that for all the speel that knobs put on our Englishness it doesn't really exist. Most of our English culture that people rave about comes from abroad eg ST george being Turkish and Muslim and even the Queen coming from germany.

There is nothing prior to the Romans that we really can shout about and after then its not until Elizabeth, Drake Wellington or Nelson that we can get proud about. after that we have a lot to shout about and it was our engineers poets & writers that gave us our real heritage and led to the empire.

And like all empires they become too big and collapse leading to the problems now.

I think like you there is too much immigration - the difference is that you use immigration to blame the problems you have for. I think immigration is being used to create a global world power that will govern everyone

Way out west
Got a link. i would like to read that. Think it would of been very small. Hardly evidence of a multi cultural Britain. i didn't see many of them when i went round the Yorvick centre but i will imagine that will all change when the liberal looneys try and invent history

It was on the TV last week, think it might have been the One Show, they did some feature about some jewellery and bones found by an archaeological dig in York...the conclusion was that they belonged to a woman who was more than likely of either African or mixed descent...if my memory serves me right, I was concentrating on stuffing my dinner down at the time and the programme was just on as background noise.
