Hopefully never again will anyone like this will prevail.

Welcome back America...

I just hope that Biden carries out his message a bit later and America stops Trump and his family from ever being allowed to get involved again and put him on mute for the rest of his days.
Take away the Mr President he is still allowed and take away his protection as an ex President.
Or will Biden lead by example.

Biden is not impeaching Trump, the legislature is. And the Republicans will probably want him struck down more than the Democrats. The Reds have more to lose if he remains able to hold public office.

Kamala 2025-2033 sounds sweet, that should see out all the Trump Klansmen.

If Biden lasts till Jan 2023 then Kamala can serve the final two years as president and then have two full terms of her own. If she takes over with more than two years of Bidens term left she can have only one other full term. A Kamala Harris presidency from Feb 2023 to jan 2033 is I think a distinct possibility.

I do like these bashes.

Whatever the nation, whatever the party be it left, right or middle for diddle.

The incoming leader's advisors and speech writers have a rhetoric explosion, usually full of subtle digs at the outgoer.

As with these jollies, the proof of the pudding is in a year or so where the difference will hopefully be noticed by the rank and file.

Trouble is millions of the Reds (including many senators, congressmen, etc.) don't understand that logic.

The senators and congressman will be doing the ‘Math’ right now. If a Trump patriot party can get them power they’ll go with him - but any historic two party system is pretty resistant to change, especially the GOP

Very good speech from Joe Biden, here are a couple of paragraphs to show the measure of the man and his decency, something that has been sadly lacking recently.....

To overcome these challenges, to restore the soul and secure the future of America, requires so much more than words. It requires the most elusive of all things in a democracy - unity. Unity. In another January on New Year's Day in 1863 Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. When he put pen to paper the president said, and I quote, 'if my name ever goes down in history, it'll be for this act, and my whole soul is in it'.

My whole soul is in it today, on this January day. My whole soul is in this. Bringing America together, uniting our people, uniting our nation. And I ask every American to join me in this cause. Uniting to fight the foes we face - anger, resentment and hatred. Extremism, lawlessness, violence, disease, joblessness, and hopelessness.

With unity we can do great things, important things. We can right wrongs, we can put people to work in good jobs, we can teach our children in safe schools. We can overcome the deadly virus, we can rebuild work, we can rebuild the middle class and make work secure, we can secure racial justice and we can make America once again the leading force for good in the world.

Recent weeks and months have taught us a painful lesson. There is truth and there are lies. Lies told for power and for profit. And each of us has a duty and a responsibility as citizens as Americans and especially as leaders. Leaders who are pledged to honour our Constitution to protect our nation. To defend the truth and defeat the lies.
We must end this uncivil war that pits red against blue, rural versus urban, conservative versus liberal. We can do this if we open our souls instead of hardening our hearts, if we show a little tolerance and humility, and if we're willing to stand in the other person's shoes, as my mom would say. Just for a moment, stand in their shoes

I don't recognise your take. In the past (till Trump) it was always like a royal succession. The predecessor was treated with respect. Trump changed that. And today there were no subtle digs. Biden was excoriating, and without lowering himself by referring to Drumf by name.

It's OK to feel jaded as you get old, but a carelessly-formed opinion isn't always worth sharing

Just pleased he's gone. I wasn't bothered if a Republican took over. Just not him.

Biden’s speech and his delivery was super impressive . Better even than Clinton’s and that is very high praise .

Its just a bunch of words. Biden is talking about the "soul", Trump was going to make America "great again". What does these things mean? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. They are just words.

I know, strange lad. Every time he gets called out he does the equivalent of 'what?' then changes the subject.

We had lads like that in class at school when I was 14. Tried to join in with the repartee and just embarrassed themselves. Sad thing is this one's probably in his 50s.

Anyway, it's a good day today. It's like the last bit of cat vomit has been mopped up, and we've finally identified and cleaned the shoe that brought that bit of dog shit into the house :rave:
