Its just a bunch of words. Biden is talking about the "soul", Trump was going to make America "great again". What does these things mean? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. They are just words.

To find no difference between Trump and Biden is......weird.

Americans are sentimental and to my English ears, when I was young (early 30s.....), I found them syrupy and insincere. No. They are what they are. I'm no great expert on North American nuance and I lived in Vancouver for four years. You, old fruit, have no chance of getting it.

You’re on the right tracks, but beneath the veneer, there’s bitterness than Trump’s out and his wish for a Republican Senate to destroy Biden’s programme is in tatters.

Is PotG a genuine right wing zealot? I though he was simply a bit of a struggler on the chess board of life

Trump's inauguration written by the disruptive duo (Miller & Bannon) talked about draining the swamp and ending this American Chaos right here and right now - the enabling of the nutters started day 1. Biden's rhetoric leads with bi-partisan healing and truth and honour.. OF COURSE ****ING RHETORIC MATTERS.

Having worked with Americans for the last 10 years I know that is not true.

Its also a load of bollocks that they can't drink!

But what caused that? And if it was just a protest then vote then surely Trump would have disappeared like UKIP did over here?

I worked for yanks for some years too, clearly not all of them, but significant numbers. UKIP haven't dissapeared they just keep changing their name and trying a different tack. TBH their job is done and they didn't have any other ideas.

To misquote Eric Morcambe, Swansman has all the right words, but not necessarily in the right order.

Delighted, if a little alarmed, that you're aware of my viewing schedule.

Give it a rest. You're completely out of your depth. That post doesn't make the slightest bit of sense.

Context is everything.

Context here is that Biden is the new president and it is his duty to deliver some sleazy speech preferably including a lot of meaningless nonsense words like "soul", "rights" and "unity" to make braindead people keep up their baseless belief that this Messiah will be the one able to solve issues the country has had for hundreds of years. Its amazing how a lot of people seem to believe that the US was some kind of paradise, a bastillion of sanity and justice, just before this Trump guy came along, and that it will now magically return to being this paradise where everyone gets along, holds hands and sing "we shall overcome".

Even in the very unlikely event that he would be the man of the people rather than the man of a continuous buttrape of the people on behalf of those with money, he would still not be able to fix.

People may pretend to give a shit about their soul today but at the end of the month when they get half of what they need to pay their rent after working in slave conditions on some definitely not so ****ing soulful Walmart, they will very quickly forget about that soul and his honeymoon will end just like it did for every single previous president.

Words have genuine power when used in the right context and the right order. Trump said he was going to "drain the swamp" , all he actually did was to allow the damp of the swamp to creep in to the foundations and timber of US society and rot its structure.

Of course I see the difference. One is a puppet pretending to be a clown and the other one is a puppet pretending to be the embodiment of the American sanity that never existed.

Very good speech from Joe Biden, here are a couple of paragraphs to show the measure of the man and his decency, something that has been sadly lacking recently.....

To overcome these challenges, to restore the soul and secure the future of America, requires so much more than words. It requires the most elusive of all things in a democracy - unity. Unity. In another January on New Year's Day in 1863 Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. When he put pen to paper the president said, and I quote, 'if my name ever goes down in history, it'll be for this act, and my whole soul is in it'.

My whole soul is in it today, on this January day. My whole soul is in this. Bringing America together, uniting our people, uniting our nation. And I ask every American to join me in this cause. Uniting to fight the foes we face - anger, resentment and hatred. Extremism, lawlessness, violence, disease, joblessness, and hopelessness.

With unity we can do great things, important things. We can right wrongs, we can put people to work in good jobs, we can teach our children in safe schools. We can overcome the deadly virus, we can rebuild work, we can rebuild the middle class and make work secure, we can secure racial justice and we can make America once again the leading force for good in the world.

Recent weeks and months have taught us a painful lesson. There is truth and there are lies. Lies told for power and for profit. And each of us has a duty and a responsibility as citizens as Americans and especially as leaders. Leaders who are pledged to honour our Constitution to protect our nation. To defend the truth and defeat the lies.
We must end this uncivil war that pits red against blue, rural versus urban, conservative versus liberal. We can do this if we open our souls instead of hardening our hearts, if we show a little tolerance and humility, and if we're willing to stand in the other person's shoes, as my mom would say. Just for a moment, stand in their shoes

I’m no Trump apologist as you well know but America is a sick country. They’ll carry on shooting each other,, waving the Confederate flag and generally acting like k.unts

The words, how they’re delivered and who delivers them matters enormously.
If Trump had delivered that speech, we (or I at least) would be rolling in the aisles!
Biden with his background and reputation means it is more likely to be taken seriously.

So Biden talks crap about bi-partisan healing despite it being the Pelosi and Schumer lead witch hunts that helped create this open division.

The problem is Biden's words don't match the last four years of the Democrats often corrupt actions.

And of course Trump was whiter than white!

What were Pelosi and Schumer supposed to do! Just sit back and let Trump have his way when he was totally out of control?

I do like these bashes.

Whatever the nation, whatever the party be it left, right or middle for diddle.

The incoming leader's advisors and speech writers have a rhetoric explosion, usually full of subtle digs at the outgoer.

As with these jollies, the proof of the pudding is in a year or so where the difference will hopefully be noticed by the rank and file.
