Have to say I quite like the ground actually, feels like a proper old school ground and like it when clubs have a big end behind the goal where the fans get behind the team and they always do that pretty well.
I have a good friend who's a Pompey fan and it's only for his sake I don't truly detest them. I was there for the 4-2 a few years ago and hated it. I even got a punch in the back of the head whilst walking down the street to enter the away end before the match. The loser didn't even stay to try to finish the job he just ran off.
I also remember walking past the 'Fratton Rifle Club' or something near the train station. I remember the police being linked arm forming a cordon in the doorway to it to stop the swearing, filthy, aggressive so and sos from getting out. Not a nice place at all.
the city is full of shaved head, shiny shoes, umbro type, "england is great" chavs. cannot stand the city for many reasons.
once went to watch bha there when i was younger and a few of us got chased for about an hour......was not funny at the time....lol. gotsmanov hit the post i think? 0-0?
they have cheated in the game of football, using money that was not theirs. the ground is a dump like the city, but they always seem to have big strong black guys in their team - if this is true tomorrow Dicker better start to toughen up as he has looked too lightweight this season.
My earliest memories of Pompey and the city of Portsmouth stemmed from the fact that my uncle was in the Royal Navy so I got to go down there for the Navy Days and spent time on the ships he served. The Ark Royal and Invincible stick in the memory.
I also used to go down there for matches in the sixties on my own. Jumping on a train and standing in the ground - a proper football ground. Pompey v Millwall springs to mind which was a pretty tasty game and atmosphere.
I still like going to Portsmouth for days out and like the city itself. I made the mistake of marrying a Pompey fan....now divorced. The rivalry between Brighton and Pompey is well documented but I wish them well and hope they can move into a new stadium (been planned/talked about as long if not longer then Brighton) as befits their real and passionate fans.
