Like many, I love war films...its probably my "go-to" genre tbh, and many listed here are among my favourites for sure.
I've always had a thing for the 1950's movies though - and in my opinion, you cant beat the likes of:

The Cruel Sea, Reach for the Sky, Ill met by Moonlight, The Desert Rats, Dambusters, Ice Cold in Alex, Cockleshell Heroes, Malta Story, & Dunkirk etc. etc.

Classic movies.

The Deer Hunter, aside from one scene, is an absolute BOREFEST. That cuffing wedding at the start feels like it goes on for about 3 days. Utterly overrated tosh.
