Brighton factually.....
These two bands although contain named solo artists they did start out as 3 piece bands.

Johnny Cash & The Tennessee Two

The winner is not the jam as the below had a far greater affect on the beatles, stones and progression from rockabilly/rock n roll to modern pop.....

The Crickets (Jerry Allison, Joe Maudlin, and Buddy Holly)

Well the correct answer is obviously The Jam. As for XTC, as great as they were, for their major hits they were a four piece, were they not?

They were, but (for me at least) they were at their best as a three-piece (and then a two-piece). My favourite band for that period, in fact

good shout coz without Mick the Sticks they were nothing!
ps I have seen the tribute band Daz & Chave..awesome!

Saw them (Chaz N Dave) back in the late 80's at a knees up in a sarf London pub when I was a squaddie. Can't remember the name of the pub, but I am sure it was near the Elephant and Castle, but the atmosphere was heaving.

3/4 of The Chefs??? At least they were a local band? And who does not LOVE Helen McCookeryBook?

I was a MASSIVE fan of The Jam and was at their last gig at the Brighton Centre in 1982 and still love their music now. I also love Nirvana.
